  1. There’s some screws on the bracket just below the headlight and a couple on the sides. When they are all out just pull it out, there is a ball type fitting behind the indicator that will feel like a screw but just give it a tug and it will come away
  2. And yes you can just work on one side, while the other side is fully attached. I just left mine hanging, it’s all rather flexible plastic. Hardest part of it is popping off all the little black clips. And there are quite a few.
  3. The headlight washer cover needs removing. Fog lights can stay attached. If you manually pull the washer cover away from the bumper you will see it’s only held on to the washer jet assembly by two tabs. Takes less than a minute! Flat blade screwdriver and a wiggle and it will be off.
  4. I had this issue. I bet your headlight is leaking and the water is flooding the ballast. Total pain! I had my headlight off a total of 6 times before i fully sealed it. When you do manage to get it off fill up your bath and submerge it in the bath, (with the front facing the ceiling) water will leak in from any gaps in the seals and bubbles will come up. Put some good quality bathroom sealant over the holes and let it dry and dunk it back in again until you are certain it is totally watertight. You can dry the ballast out if you catch it early enough, but they take a fair bit of drying out. Best bet is getting a used one off eBay and using the dodgy one for the above sealing job. Yes it is a bumper off job (or at least drop the side that needs the headlight removing from. Plenty of guides on the internet. I got mine down to about 15-20 minutes. Once you know where the clips are it pretty easy. http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f85/how-remove-06-headlights-dissasembly-paint-clear-corners-11516/#/topics/11516
  5. Seems like you are in exactly the same boat as me. I also have an 06 xt and have spent a lot of money fixing suspension, brakes, bushes. I've come to the conclusion that I'm also so far in it the only thing left is to push on. Although I did buy the Subaru as a cheaper, more usable car than my Audi RS6. If anything it's been more expensive! I've accumulated parts for a service including plugs which I was hoping would solve my misfire/stuttering, but seeing as you have now replaced everything and still have the issue has left me slightly concerned that it's going to be another expensive job. And to make matters worse, I went out in it last night and noticed I now only have one headlight bulb working. So either the ballast is knackered or the bulb has blown. i will be keeping an eye on this thread with interest. If I find a fix to my misfire I will let you know!
  6. Just an update with a quick question. My car is now at the garage with the alloy arms, new ball joints and bushes ready to go on. Question is, do the control arms affect the ability of the stock ARB, or will I have to change it to suit the new arms to an STI ARB? Also do I need to use a different type of drop link?
  7. My large bushing in the trailing arm on my 06 forester has perished and is making a noise. Should I rebush the existing arms or can I fit a pair of hardrace arms from an Impreza? I was thinking of something like this: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/222091426269 will they fit or will they totally alter the geometry? Otherwise the other options are to rebush the existing arms or buy a pair from Subaru I presume? Anyone know how much OE trailing arms cost?
  8. Excellent find. I'll be having those eBay ones then, get them cleaned up and painted. While it's all apart should I revuid them with white line/super pro polys or are they liable to give me a nasty ride? Thanks for your help, seems like a nice forum!
  9. Hi all I've just purchased a 2006 forester 2.5xt. I used to own an Audi RS6 but I needed something that was cheaper to repair and considerably more reliable. The problem being I don't know a thing about subarus! Ive just had a quick inspection of it at a local Subaru dealer and have been told that my front lower arms are in poor condition due to corrosion and a bush has 'pulled through.' So i was planning on replacing the front arms for new units, however finding a set has been a bit of an issue. Are the front wishbones the same on a 2.0 as a 2.5xt? I've been a bit worried as googling them shows USED ones at over £300 pair, which seems rather steep?! also the report has bought up corrosion in the centre exhaust section. I have the prodrive package on the car with the stainless backbox, can I just get a standard stainless centre section to fit up to from anywhere? No doubt I'll be along in the future with many more questions! thanks in advance!
