  1. Hi all just wondered if there is a way to identify what engine I have brought it was very cheap with it being unknown I know it's a v3v4 as it come with the inlet exhaust turbo everything even new cam belt and water pump so I took the gamble and it seems to have payed off fitted it in my v1 runs fine boost fine just idle abit lumpy and abit of tapping coming from heads been told it's normal if it's sti engine somthing to do with valves can hear it when driving only when bonnet is open and help would be great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Yh I picked up the engine last night seeing it in person can see the small difference like on the crossover pipe the sensors go in the other side on mine wouldn't have even thought about things like that so will be swapping everything over to be on safe side as it's only temporary it's just had new timing belt and water pump fitted but I'm going to do front and rear crank seals as I got them for my engine so may as well chuck them in and any other gaskets I come across while stripping it like you say it's a lot easier while it's out Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks for the info sounds a lot easier to just use my manifold for now then can't see there really being any benefits in switching them at least I know all my sensors are good is there much difference in the v1 wrx cams and the v3 wrx cams thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  4. Hi I'm sure v3-4 long engine will fit in my v1 but would I need to use my manifold or could I use the v3-4 that way I could convert to front entry turbo so have a lot more choice any help would be great thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
  5. Also might be worth doing fuel filter in engine bay if it's not been done mate if that gets clogged can do strange things Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Check that each pipe is the same underneath on both I've been chasing problem with mine for months and found a few different things can go wrong with them just because the pipes face the same on top don't mean they do the same job as I've found also can you hear the pump prime? Check the white plug both sides and wiring after changing my pump 3 time and cradle twice turned out to be the wiring on car side had gone bad couldn't see anything wrong but after wiring a new plug on it's been fine also won't get a cel light hope that helps Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

That's what I've found fix one and another starts so I've just left this one for awhile don't really use any oil as it's very small leak but just getting annoying now leaving marks on drive guessing mine will still be Phillips screws with plastic cover so will look at changing it thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi guys I've got a oil leak cant see where it's coming from but after cleaning the bottom of engine and running it can see it running down the back of the sump so thinking sump gasket or rear crank so ordered both but before I pull engine is there any other seals I should change at same time thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Sounds just like mine did idle always up and down mine used to aid close to 2000 when cold then around 1000-1200 when warm but always up and down I changed anything then just lived with it unti I fitted my original ecu now it idle perfect with the alcatek and maffless my mapper didn't spend the time to get it spot on it can be time consuming for them but if it was fine before I'd be getting hold of the mapper Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi all quick question ordered a new fuel pump cradle as mine had been playing up just come to change them an noticed the new one has a blue sticker on top and one of the pipes goes in different direction does anyone know if it can still be used or not my car is a 93 wrx import not sure what the other one has come from any help would be great Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Managed to get it working but when I was doing up the 8mm bolts my spanner slipped hit the white plug and it stopped so hit it again and it started working again so thinking it's a loose wire under the cover going to get it back off again 2moz and check everything but when it stopped working the fan came on so they are connected somehow if anyone has the same kind of problem in future Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I've had the multi meter out I have 12v at the pump drops to 10.5v when cranking the engine and I've put the pump straight to to battery and it spins so going to check the plug in the morning see if that's making a good connection crank sensor is brand new only couple weeks ago when I was chasing another problem same as cam sensor Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Hi guys my fuel pump has stopped working I've changed it with 2 old ones I had which did work but no joy so got a brand new one still no fuel getting through took the pipe off before and after the filter turned ignition on and no fuel checked fuses and all fine but now when I turn my ignition on my fan is coming on as well and can't hear fuel pump any ideas would be great thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So after 2 months of chasing the problem with my car finally found out the ecu was the problem all along I have a alcatek ecu which I've been using for the past year not a problem until this but if I put my original ecu in runs fine so does anyone know anywhere I could send it to get the bored check/fixed or is it easier to get a new one thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

So the rebuild has began and noticed a few things the timing is off by one tooth on the right side of the engine could that have caused the problems I've been having couldn't see any problems with the head on that side exhaust valves looked burnt but no cracks not got the other side off yet but pistons look fine no movement with them and the cylinders walls are very clean think it was rebuilt not that long ago I have some v3 sti heads to put back on will it start and run with them Ill be booking in for a map once it's built Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

I wasn't 100% confident in the gauge that was used as it's old but did it again with engine cold and and 3 of them were 85-90psi and cylinder 3 was 50psi both tests were done twice and with throttle open was going to do a leak down test today but decided to just rebuild now get it over and done with :) Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
