  1. Great car! Loving the WIP thread! 👍
  2. Hi all! (hopefully the correct forum for this post?!), Some of you may have seen my recent post regarding me finally getting my RB5 back on the road; As per my introduction post... I suffered with the transmission issues when driving home last week after accelerating hard from a stand still for the first time, I had driven the car hard with the new lump installed several times within the last few weeks but never from being stationary. I have a little 1/4 mile strip o/s my business and thought after sorting the all the teething problems it was time to see what she could do.... Stuck me back in my seat with a smile on my face, felt amazing having some power under my foot once again however once on the residential highway, a 1/2 mile later and "dad driving mode" re-activated i could hear a strange noise coming from the car. It sounded like a rattle/knocking noise, the car at this point was still driving normally (apart from the sound). After a few miles on the motor way (and lots of sounds!), i seem to loose gears when trying to pull from the slip road... I managed to pull away in 3rd and get home... Ive not driven the car since this, its been parked up! symptoms: Rattle noise when clutch depressed in neutral, noise disappears when pedal pressed. Started the car tonight from cold and seem to be able to select all gears normally, clutch bites in its normal position. noise is a “rattle" as opposed to a "whine". noise gets louder when clutch pedal is depressed and gear stick is pulled towards gear (especially with 2nd!). you can feel it on the gear knob. couldn’t select gears at one point when on route home last week, wouldn’t dare let go on clutch pedal in second!! I have had two people give me their opinion, fist mechanic says clutch release bearing and second guys saying gear box - i really don’t want to spend money on the wrong parts! what are your opinions? links below for a couple of videos, they’re not the greatest but you can hear the noises if you try... (excuse my french on the second vid...)
  3. Hi i thought id introduce myself (and my car), Its been a rough ride in the world of Subaru for me but I’m still persisting! In mid 2008 i purchased my first (and only) Impreza. I always wanted a classic so i bought an RB5 -no 318 / 444, pretty mint at the time with minimal mods from standard other than an induction kit, holographic HUD and Alloys. [Above Photos around Jan 2009] I won’t go in to too much detail in this post but i only had a few months motoring before i had to replace the clutch then the gear box and eventually the block it self - spent a fortune on all of the above whilst at the same time installing a few mods. Another month of happy motoring with my new lump then it lost all power again, at this stage i was probably around 19K in to the car and couldn’t bring myself (or afford) to spend any more money on it and parked it up (roughly around March 2009). November 2016 a friend (and mechanic) of mine stumbled across a freshly built, complete lump and we decided to get the car back on the road. Late January 2017 and the cars finally driving again! a few teething problems that we have dealt with one by one (5 fuel pumps, 4 fuel filters and a fuel tank (ROTTON!!!), i could go on…), A new set of tyres, disks, pads and callipers all round and she’s running like a dream!… Its been running perfectly for the last two days, used all the excuses why i need to pop out every night to take a random drive :) On route home tonight and the clutch release bearing has totally gone, rendering the car unusable once again! Lucky i have the finance and resource to get these things sorted nowadays so it won’t be long until she’s back again. Despite the past and present problems, I’m really enjoying having the car back on the road… I have a huge list of things I’m going to get sorted and I’m looking forward to it. The body work has kept AMAZINGLY well considering its sat in one place for 7 years! As soon as its complete ill post my WIP photos on here for you to see! [Below photo, first day back on the road Jan 2017]

  6. Hi all, the photo isn’t my car but it highlights my issue! My cars been sat up for a long time and ive just got her back on the road... the body work has kept really well considering, however the rear window panels seem to be going back to chrome due to the sun! I’m looking to remove them and re-spray however i can’t seem to get them off without the feeling that they are going to bend! Any advice on how to remove without causing damage? Any advice very much appreciated as id rather not spray them on the car!.. thanks
