  1. Thanks Mr B, I took the turbo off this morning, loads of lateral play on shaft and compressor wheel has scored housing walls. I’ll check the oil mesh. P1ssed off as have changed oil every 4K with good stuff... maybe a result of a less well maintained past. Do you know any Subaru breakers that may be able to help? I could cope with £100. Price of new units put me in shock earlier! One other thing... does anyone sell a turbo install gasket kit? Thank you. Much appreciated.
  2. On my way back from a track day today (!) my SG 2.5xt lost boost almost completely and developed a light ‘metallic fluttering’ noise on acceleration. I haven’t taken intercooler off to check yet... but I’m convinced that my turbo has given up. I gather it’s a TD04... though not too clued up on what would be best/bolts straight on. Does anyone know where’s best to find a decent used one? How much it’s going to cost me? And what the best (economic) option is? Cheers (gutted!)
  3. Cheers. It's not very photogenic eh?! I've not had a Japanese car over 10 years over that is mind! Turns out the bracket is part of a dodgy batch from the US. I'm blaming trump and waiting for the replacements to arrive,
  4. Here's a pic. Bracket is only resting there but you can see misalignment.. cheers
  5. Just attempted to fit a whiteline adj rear sway bar and found tiebar reinforcement brackets do not align with existing droplink brackets - hole centres are about 2-3mm off. Has anyone else found this??? i dont really want to file and elongate hole in original mount to make fit if I can avoid. Brackets should fit... Cheers
  6. Hi, Chancing my arm here... Does anyone have a spare set of wheels in/near Leeds that I could borrow for a few days whilst my wheels are being re-re-furbished?? I don't need to use the car and willl be on a drive... just don't want to leave on stands with kids messing around nearby! Asides doing a poor job last time, the refurbishers damaged my sills so just want to give them the wheels this time. i could use bricks (!), just thought I'd try!! cheers!
  7. Cheers. I'll have a look at the rear mounts and drop links too. Is whiteline the only brand worth going for?
  8. Oracles, Sorry if this topic has been done to death... I'm slowly trying to improve the handling my 2.5XT. After a little understeering incident and experience of a whiteline ARB on a past Golf, I want to replace my standard sway bar. Can anyone advise on what make/diameter is best for road and hopefully occasional track days? Also whether I should be buying new rear drop links and if the front droplinks are worth doing at the same time?? Cheers
  9. Cheers all. Thanks for the advice Stants. Had a quick look at rear towers... seem ok, I hope!
  10. Hi all, Just purchased a 54 reg Forester 2.5XT after years of wanting one. Fuel economy is what I feared though the driving experience what I'd hoped for! It seems to be in very good shape and has 93k with FSH. I love the mechanical feel to it and have soon forgotten how heavy the clutch pedal is. I was concerned this might suggests a knack'd pressure plate but have read a few posts about this being the norm. I've put some Green Stuff pads on the front and have it booked in for a wheel refurb and a Tony Banks S/S exhaust... perhaps a filter and remap later - any recommendations?? Spend several hours brushing back inner arches and diff sub-frame to rust-cure, zinc prime and wayoyl. Unfortunately in 'testing' the robustness of the inner rear arch I pushed my fist through it!! I know it's a weak point and hope that it's fine on the inside as was sealed up before. I've treated and patched,,, so hopefully wont cause me too much grief in the near future. Was mildly peed off. I'm not into spending everything I earn on my car but would really appreciate any tips and info on low-cost mods that make a difference. Cheers!!
