New car new problem, MAPPING PLEASE HELP

Took my car to Zi Motorsport in Wrexham yesterday for a power run on a rolling road but of course, there was an issue. The car was only producing 329bhp which is low considering it's a 330s and it has a few minor mods. More surprisingly the torque was only 270 as the mapper said the ECU was deliberately holding the power back because of the engine? The timing is pulled out at 5000RPM or over and I have been advised not to drive it harsh. The car is running a bit lean 83-85 at peak power.

The mapper said it is a possible problem with the engine but I personally think this is unlikely as it had a new engine put in by Subaru only 30,000 miles ago. 

The mapper also said it could just be a bad map but he can't get into the ECU as it is an ECUtek system and it needs to be unlocked.

If anyone has any advice on what the problem is or who I could call that would be great as I don't wanna spend money on a mapping session that might not even work. Also is this the best place to post this issue or is there a mapping section on the club site?

No codes I've seen no burning oil that I can see or smell and unfortunately there isn't any paperwork from the previous owner on the mapper. Am I right in thinking if I take this to any certified ECUtek mapper they could map the car for me?

 

I think I need to get it mapped to rule out the map and if it fixes it brilliant but if not I will be worried

As it would at least save you the ecutek licence fee if you went back to the original mapper

 

 

Hopefully not duncant chocolate tunes or that would explain Alot [emoji106] [emoji41]

Kershaw-330s Yeah I've just been on the phone with Scooby clinic its abit out the way for me to get there but it I thought it's worth getting looked at by people who know what they are on about. They are going to do a dyno run on it and check the results if it's down on power and running lean as Zi Motorsport said then they will go onto remapping it. I understand what you're saying about the car might not be mapped as it does make sense but I was told it has a stage 1 map when I bought it? I know this could just be lies but everything else the guy said is all genuine so he wouldn't have a reason to make something up.

whats a stage 1 map. i have heard people say stage 1 mods usually exhaust and filter,not heard stage 1 map though,but like @kershaw-330s says it sound like its not been map't with the bhp it has.am not sure how it works but if you need a licence to unlock your ecu then if it had been map't wouldnt the ecu be unlock as the licence would be on it to unlock,like when you unclock a mobile phone,or do you have to buy a licence each time you go for a map.

It's a 330s so it has a locked map on it from the factory , when mine got done at engine tuner , they said because it's a prodrive car I had to buy the Ecu Tek soft wear to start a fresh as such, but once you have the licence you shouldn't need to buy it again

If its not been mapped for the mods could well be causing the issue

Sounds like it Needs a good once over with a specialist. Could be the exhaust is causing the fueling issues and 2as never mapped for it, or it could be fuel pump is on its way out etc etc.

 

Need to get it looked at by someone who knows what they are doing

Back from my visit to Scooby clinic where my car had a cylinder leak test done, turns out one of them is bad and the other three are going that way, in other words, it is Ringland failure that's causing my problems just caught it early on. I was advised to have them all forged to prevent this from happing again this would be around £3,600 plus VAT. I have also been advised to get a closed deck conversion and maybe even steel rods while the engine is out. Just would like to know peoples opinion on this as I'm sure this could mount up and I can only afford to pay what I sell my Classic for.

 

They kindly let me take a courtesy car for the weekend while I decide so I don't have to further damage mine. If I was to go ahead with the build I would be allowed to keep the courtesy car for the duration. They've been extremely helpful so far.:biggrin: Just unfortunate after only owning the car for 4 weeks!

Do you want the car.could you not take it back tell them they selled you a dud if you got it from a garage.did you get it from Zi motors.if you are going to keep it then if you can afford it i would go closed deck or you could have sleave put in forged postons n rods.if your not going to be going big power later then sleaves are the cheaper option.also everyone has their own opinions on a garage but i do read clinic are good but you do need deep pockets for their.maybe better to phone for quotes from other places before you go ahead n see what your budget can do.

If you bought it from a garage then you DO have recourse to take it back and get them to repair it, although i would be pushing for your money back as i doubt they will pay for a full build. Would be my first port of call.

Unfortunately, it was bought privately I thought the engine would be fine as Subaru put a brand new block in the car back in 2013 and its only done 30,00 miles since. I can never imagine myself going for more than 400bhp as I might want to experience a track but not make it a hobby. I want to go for the forged cylinders rods and closed deck but I will only have the funds from my classic to pay as I've already got a loan out paying off the car!:sad:

The work would be easier done at Scooby clinic as the car is already there and I don't want to damage my car further by driving it (I live 180 miles away from SC)

They said to give a call back on Tuesday and tell them what I would like to do.

How long did the last owner have it.could be a indication of if they new something was wrong with it if not owned long.reason i ask if it was from Zi motors in wrexham is colour stuck in my head as am sure they had it for sale about 12months ago when i was looking to buy mine.

This is not a good thing to hear mate really feel for you. I have had mine for 3 months and it has had the new engine from subaru. Suppose I best start saving as I am in the same financial situation as you mate.
