Folks,

Looking in medium term to add a bit more grunt to my 07 Wed impreza.

I don't want to sacrifice reliability too much, so what would be a sensible first step?

Filters? Exhaust? Remap?

Any advice welcome

You've pretty much answered your own question- get the engine breathing well (new air filter and exhaust) then get it mapped to suit. If you're looking a bit longer term/a bit more power, you can get bigger injectors and play around with your fuel feeds a bit.

As I'm sure you've seen and been told already, it's a big can of worms to open, get your wallet prepared!

255l fuel pump is worthwhile if your going to map just to be on the safe side, don't want it leaning off too much under boost, for the sake of 80-100 quid it's a worthwhile safety measure

Thanks guys, very helpful. I think short term I'll upgrade filter and pipes, then remap down the line.

The can of worms has been opened

K & N or Bmc air filter, anyone have a particular preference and a reason?

I can't speak from comparison but a cosworth panel filter gave me a good collective gain along with other mods.

What's the benefit of a centre and rear exhaust system, as opposed to one or the other?

Only heard good things about surrey scoobies, a few members on here use them so if they are giving advice/possible upgrade path you should be in good hands, cosworth are dry filters so need changing at service intervals, where as k&n etc are oiled, which can play havoc with the maf sensor, people tend to stay away from then unless they are going maf less

Can't wait to hear the H&S exhaust, get some video up when you've had it done.... I'm on the edge of replacing my back boxes with H&S at the moment,

Will do mate. Actually enjoyed bumper to bumper traffic on motorway back from having it fitted, just to hear pull aways
