Project Red - My 2006 JDM Hawkeye STI A-Line in Urban Grey Metallic

Recommended Posts

Thought I’d start a little thread off to chart what I hope to be many, many years of happy ownership of this car.

I sourced it through Club Japan Imports; the chap who runs it is called Ryan and I can highly recommend him.

I committed to buy the car on 15 May 2018 and it left Japan on the Hoegh Trapper on 31 May 2018. What seemed like a round the world cruise finally ended on 23 July when the ship docked at Port of Tyne. 12 hours later, the car had cleared customs and at 0755 on 27 July I proudly collected it. A quick 30 minute drive to my usual servicing garage in Hexham followed, and then the work began.

Underseal, fog light into rear cluster, service, cv boots changed, drop links changed, exhaust welded, new wiper blades and finally 4 new uniroyal rain sport 3’s.

Off for an MOT she went, clean pass :)

Back home she came on 2 August and registration docs sent to DVLA, which is where I am sat waiting now.

A good clean and inspection had turned up 4 deep scratches that will be getting smart repaired and little else. Not bad for a grade 3.5! Interior is immaculate.

Project red has started too...red is going to be my accent colour everywhere .

Mods identified so far are upgraded intercooler, rear strut brace (front was standard on the a-line), alloy radiator, massive rear view mirror and genuine STI spoiler (a-line had duck tail spoiler as OEM).

A few pics so far

Very nice mate. You had a blast in it yet? How do you think it compares to your last one?
When I went from a standard Blob STi to a JDM widetrack I thought the difference was night and day handling wise. Loved it. Wasn’t keen on the sound at all though. Could have been any 4 cylinder apart from a slight rumble at very low revs. Made a great scream at top of the Rev range though. What do you think?

I've only had the pleasure of 2 drives so far - to and from the garage where I had the work done.

It's a completely different animal to the wrx auto, both in terms of power delivery and noise. Much quieter than the wrx due to lack of nur spec haha and power delivery is just never ending once the twinscroll spools up - incredible. It drives so tight too - literally feels like the mrs 6 month old car does - no squeaks, rattles or anything - amazing - and so sharp on the steering - lovely.

Can't wait to get it registered and mapped to see what it is running.

Ha fair enough mate, ah yea forgot yours was a WRX, should be a even greater difference then :).

Have you got it booked for napping yet?

I am thanks, yes - well reputed locally, especially with Subaru's and lots of much more expensive cars than that

Jamie at Evotune in Durham...expert at what he does.

Today he’s diagnosed a problem, fixed it, told me what else needs checking when it’s cold and still sent me away with 100+ bhp compared to when I arrived.

My god it’s quick now
