  1. Aircon clutch started smoking arriving home. Checked the system and was empty.... Was surprised of not finding a pressure switch on the Outback to prevent this: Aircon compressor seems seized, once cooled down I could move it by hand but was rough. Next thing would be to trace the leak, maybe the condensor?
  2. Took the car in to get the AC looked at as it's been rubbish since I got the car (2012 diesel XV) 18 months ago. The garage tested and found a small leak in the condenser, a genuine Subaru part is going to cost in the region of £300, plus an hour and a half fitting and gas. Probably around £500/£550 all in. The garage are happy for me to get an aftermarket condenser and they will fit and fill it. Question is: has anyone used any aftermarket AC condensers, any to recommend /avoid. Or should I bite the bullet and go OEM? Online I can see aftermarket ranging from £70 to about £120, a denso one would cost around £100. That's a big saving if it lasts a reasonable length, most seem to have a 2 year guarantee. Comments and thoughts greatly appreciate.
  3. For info. Lost aircon a couple of weeks ago so returned to Dealer for repair under warranty as the car (Forester 2016) hasn't even had its first service. Just been told that replacement condenser won't be with them until late September 2017 at the earliest. Subaru apparently say it is a worldwide issue with a manufacturing defect. Ok I know it is just a Scottish summer but 2 months without aircon is a bit off. I'm in discussion with Dealers/Subaru about a loan car for the period but even if this is agreed I'm going to be without my own car for over six weeks but what is the option as I'm not driving to sunny England with no aircon!
  4. Hullo all, The centre unit on my beloved Outback has knackered. Long story short - I was told to touch battery leads together to stop it blasting out hot air max (stuck on after clean). Checked fuses etc and nothing. It has been sent away to an 'expert' who found nothing wrong. The CD now works but driving without anything to clear windscreen is hazardous. Subaru UK say I can buy a 2nd hand console and get it fitted as long as I have chassis number and security details from donor car OR spend £1200 on a new one.... Has anyone had a similar experience? Thanks in advance, Andy
