  1. hi I'm in the process of rebuillding all of the calipers on my car - its a Forester SG9 2.5XT. I've completed the fronts and just started on the rears, I hpoing someone can confirm whether the rear caliper in the photos is able to be re-used if cleaned up or better to just locate a donor caliper and rebuild that instead? Mainly concerned about the rust on the brake caliper piston seal groove that can hopefully be seen in the photos. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, im struggling at the moment, been having some issues locating part numbers, basically, had some idle issues and general lack of power, removed and tested my coils, one is breaking down, and the other ones are looking like there gonna go soon aswell so im going to replace the lot, the problem - the part numbers on there are so old (guessing original) that most of the information is illegible or no longer visible, i phoned a main dealer (Woodford green) to help me find the parts, but they are unable to help as they cant search on imports on there system, its a ej255 engine, sg9 chassis preface any help would be helpful, or even a photo of the part number from another members coil FK0186 is what i suspect but am in no way certain thanks in advance
  3. I realise that this is probably a newbie question...so please go gentle.. When operating the twin piston Tokico calipers are both pistons supposed to move together in a linear fashion.. Or is the caliper designed to allow one to operate until it meets resistance at which point the hydraulic pressure acts upon the second piston. I'm asking due the way my OSF caliper is currently operating. With the caliper removed from the hub and hung up - pressing the brake pedal causes the upper most piston to operate (move out) but the lower one remains static. If I then chock the top piston with a piece of wood and operate the break pedal again - the the lower piston does start to move. My thought are that they should both move in sync. The OSF front wheel/caliper/disc are getting pretty hot after a short journey so checked the caliper for movement and found that the top 'slider' was really stiff so replaced it and drove the car again, but same thing happened. It now looks like the disc(s) and pads need to be replaced as the OSF disc has a blue tinge to it from the excessive heat. It appears as though the lower piston is partially seized and a caliper rebuild is required. Could one of you help explain the caliper operation and whether my diagnosis is correct please. Cheers
  4. Sadly selling my Forester as it's being replaced with a more sensible (economical) family estate.. It's in superb condition throughout and has been very carefully cared for by myself. No rust, very few scratches on the bumpers, interior is very good too. Everything works on it and it doesn't have any issues. When things have needed doing I've done them.   5. looking at lifting my Forester, will need to change the rear as its sagging now & thinking of putting the Pedders kit on. thinking of doubling up with this kit if anybody has used them/had any experiences? http://www.subtle-solutions.com/product_info.php?cPath=21_24_26_45&products_id=97 I have been in contact, $300 delivered to the UK.
  6. Does anybody out there know if the door speakers in a Forester are the same as those in an Impreza? I've been offered a set (Pioneer) for an Impreza, they're 5.25" front and 6.5" rear, will they fit my 07 SG 2.5XT? Done the search thing but couldn't find anything. Cheers
  7. Ive had my car a couple of years now, when i bought the car the standard head unit had some liquid spilt on it & would no longer tune in. So i did away with that & stuck in an Alpine 136BT DAB receiver with hands free. I went with the wire windscreen antenna to keep it in uniform to the FM loop. I have now installed rear 5" coax speakers Hertz DCX 130.3 2 way backed with dynamat, next weekend i will be doing the fronts which are 6.5" Component Hertz DSK 165.3 again backed with dynamat. Im not after big sounds, just crisping up & getting a better sound than the standard system.
  8. Hi All, Has anybody done a lift with a Forester SG, can you offer any advice & what its like to lift with. Just trying to decide if the Forester is a keeper or if i need to get a Defender. Thanks
