  1. HI, I have a 2005 Subaru forester with radio/cd player ( I know but I'm a dinosaur and its not my only car ) I have a suspect car battery issue and I'm concerned I might lose the code if I run a drain test as it involves removing one of the terminals to test it. does anyone know if this model even has a code as I've had it suggested that Subaru didn't use radio codes. Thank you in advance for any help. regards, Motty
  2. Im sure your right but i'd be anxious in case I got it wrong and messed it up. I will think about it though, dont like to be beaten, normally I come round to trying things. Ill let yu know if I do. M
  3. update. I took out, cleaned and refitted the new battery, was about to try and re programme it and by chance tried it again first and hey presto! it worked. phew! saved me some anxious moments. So Mr B you were correct, must have been dodgy contact. thanks for taking the time to reply. Regads Motty
  4. Hi, thank you so much for your reply, If im honest, im bewildered by it. I would be so afraid of losing my working fob. I am of an age where good old fashioned cables made much more sense than computers. I will digest it, think about it and go back to it a few times and if I do pluck up the courage I'll have a go, failing that I may have to elect to use a Subaru dealer not far from me but they may not have experience of an older model such as this. I also own a 21 plate Levorg but have always done the maintenance on my old forester myself. Hurts to admit I'm out of my depth occasionally but " discretion best part of valour" and all that. Once again, many thanks for your reply and the effort you put in in doing so, sorry I'm not up to it. Regards, Motty
  5. Hi, I have a 2005 forester, i changed the battery in the spare fob but now it doesnt work at all. Can i reprogramme it myself, anyone know the method. It has the single push button on the key which either closes or opens in sequence. Thanks for any advice , regards Motty
  6. Hi Nimpy, thanks for that, sadly I'm in somerset now. I did find a former Subaru dealer in somerset who quoted £375 and he reckoned there was no need to change the original subaru water pump and or tensioners unless they were faulty as like Mr B had said earlier you could be replacing good quality with lesser but as my car has had previous cam belt changes the chances are they have already been replaced. So when asked to replace the whole lot the bill went to over a thousand. Ive had two quotes near me now, one of £750 and the other for just over £600, both claim to be using japanese parts so I gues I'll go with one of them after a further chat about parts quality. Thank you for your reply though, kind regards Motty
  7. Many thanks for the info and advice, I'll ring around, I have found out that the last belt etc was of high quality so I dont think there is any need to rush with it and i'll make sure when I do replace it will be be of good quality. Once again, many thanks, regards, Motty
  8. Hi MR B, many thanks for your reply, I may have mislead you over the price Ive been quoted, The breakdown was £275 for parts which included belt, pump tensioners etc and labour was quoted at £350 plus vat making the total £750, does that still seem unreasonable to you? Last belt was from a reputable garage that I used to use a lot myself but Ive now moved too far away to use again sadly. Regards, Motty
  9. Hi, ,I have a 2005 subaru forester 2.5l, in good nick, 133k on clock, had it for 2 years with no issues, last cam belt change was at 118k miles but 5 years ago, should i change it as its 5 years old even though its only done approx 15k miles since last time. Ive been quoted approx £750.00 to include water pump etc, does that sound fair? The garage I use does seem ok. Its the Boxer engine of course so a bit more complicaed than normal. Thanks for any advice. Regards Motty
  10. Hi everyone, Posted this in introductions by mistake so here it is again. just joined having just bought my first subaru.A 2005 forester. All seems well except I cant seem to access the sat nav or menus on the display, cant even get to the clock setting etc. Whenever i press the menu button I'm informed about the danger of using it whilst the vehicle is moving I agree and it simply returns to the display with the wrong time settings on it and repeat..is it me? .Any ideas anyone?
