  1. Apart from dropping the entire transmission to get the code number is there anywhere I can get the gearbox code? Looking to replace transmission valve block and solenoids and need to ensure the correct box(just in case it all needs replacing) Breakers all want the gearbox code but its not accessible until the whole unit is dropped.
  2. Absolutely positive it’s not in that little area in the cubby - there is just a storage space there. Looked under the seats - not there either. The case for the disk is in the car and the satnav is working perfectly- so it must be somewhere . You would think it would be readily accessible……..
  3. I know this will sound ridiculous but I have hunted without success for the sat nav unit in my Outback. It is not in the little cubby area where others seem to have been…….. The sat nav is working quite adequately so it is definitely somewhere and surely can’t be so difficult to access as the disk would surely need reasonable access to eject……… please solve the mystery for me I have looked under seats etc to no avail 🤣🤣🤣🤣
  4. I have now successfully reprogrammed some ebay keyfobs for the Sigma M30 system on my old Outback 2004 which only came with one key. Obviously the blades on these old keys are redundant and i would like to get them out, but can't see how without. damaging the plastic housing of the fob and risk wrecking it all. Is there any way of getting the old blade out beyond possibly cutting or grinding it off the fobs? I managed to get a job lot of 1 button Subaru keys from ebay and it was very quick to reprogram 2 of them to work the central locking / alarm. I think there were 5 fobs in total in the ebay lot, so if anyone needs one let me know. or I will put them back on ebay at some stage. The first key I bought would simply not work, so returned it under ebay policy for refund then saw this lot coming up and bid for it. I now have three working fobs and two working transponder keys,(magaed to find a mobile locksmith who did a transponder key for me - £95) so I am content.....Would be nice to get rid of the redundant old blades though. Thanks to the advice from here to reset the PIN code initially and progress from there, and links to the user manuals.......invaluable!!. Local "remote key experts" said it couldn't be done and "had to go to Subaru main dealer". Bah!
  5. Almost forgot main dealers have to be watched, of course.......Although hard to prove in an elderly vehicle. I don't want to ignore the recalls though.
  6. My Outback has one of these units which appear to integrate everything including the climate control, CD changer, radio, tape, Satnav etc. Everything functions surprisingly well given the age of it all - and there is a satnav disk loaded as it is able to display reasonable maps. I have looked through the Subaru manual and can't find any mention of the satnav or where the satnav disk slots in.........google search doesn't bring up any link to a user manual at all . I have hunted around the glove box and can't see where the satnav disk would go. ....... Does anyone have a link to a user manual - the owners manual i have goes on about the radio and cd changer but makes no mention of the satnav etc. I know google maps on my phone is probably a lot better but it would be nice to know where to load the disk for the satnav and use it even if just for retro purposes (gotta love old tech!)
  7. The remotes are pictured below - the original working one is the one with the ring through it on the left of the photos- rear has a white sticker but unfortunately the numbers have rubbed off. No identification on the other remote at all. They both look identical. I did order some spare batteries and thought I might try a new battery before sending it back. There were a few of these remotes on ebay which all look the same - is there a particular link to one I should buy instead?
  8. Have now managed to successfully change the PIN code and it seems to be working fine. But I just cannot get the ebay remote to play ball - the pairing process seems quite simple **ABCD*91*n# where ABCD is the PIN code and n the number of remotes to program in. I hear a blip when the code is correctly entered and after pressing the # key. Then press button on first remote until it beeps, then press second remotes button until it beeps. Except the first remote beeps 4 times quite quickly and the second (the ebay one) does nothing at all. After another 15 secs or so the system goes beep-beep. First remote works perfectly. Second (new to me) remote does nothing at all. Am I doing something incorrectly in that sequence? I have tried it a number of times, gone away and come back and tried again. No success yet. The seller did say they would swop out the remote if necessary but that it had checked out electronically as working fine. I just wanted to avoid unnecessary stuff if I am not doing something correctly to pair the second remote.
  9. Update for Mr B and others interested - I finally managed to get a transponder and blade done by an auto locksmith after phoning multiple mobile and shop-based ones who either didn't respond or said they couldn't do it. Cost was £95 - cheapest I could find - some quotes were £200! No-one could offer a full key with the Sigma remote part. So I bought an identical Outback key off ebay - arrived today. Will try programming it tomorrow. Cost was about £20. Thanks for the assistance - has been really helpful - hope I don't mess up the remote programming now!
  10. Many thanks Mr B - so can used transponders in the old keys bought off eBay be reprogrammed with the Autel software? I know some vehicles like my old Volvo are really awkward for key programming. I”ll keep looking for someone reasonably local -must be someone with the Autel software
  11. I have purchased a remote off ebay and just waiting for it to arrive - do I need to reprogram the original remote (given I don't have a PIN) so will follow that process and then do it again with the newly purchased one? Do I just reset the PIN with the original remote and then reset the new-to-me-from-ebay remote using the process of when the PIN is known, once the original fob has been reset? Still struggling to find a local locksmith who is willing to copy the transponder and cut a laser key - the ones I have called have all said "we'll get back to you" or have simply not responded to any messages left. Sigh.
  12. Having bought an elderly Outback recently, I found there were some outstanding recalls - very pleasantly surprised that dealers closest to me in the Midlands happliy booked it in in the next 10 days with a loaner while they replace various airbags, brake lines and fuel pump harness etc. All under recalls issued ages ago and clearly not acted on by previous owner/s. I was pleased as it is an 18 year old - was owned by the same person for some 14 years of that time and clearly well maintained for most of its life as it still looks good in and out. Nice to have the work done as I was aiming to have suspension work done later this year and underseal............
  13. Brilliant, thanks so much. Just need to find a locksmith locally now who can do the transponder and blade.
