  1. Ooops, been some time since I posted on here. So what's happened? I still have the car. My concern about oil consumption was well founded. It was a spun bearing. One engine rebuild later. New crank, Cosworth pistons, race bearings uprated oil pump coolant flow mod. Since then it's been relatively ok, relatively apart from the alarm/ immobiliser. It failed the MOT for the first time a couple of Months ago not as I suspected due to rust but a drop link. After getting advisories year after year for rust I sent it off to Colin, the welder to sort it out and repair and respray damage on the rear bumper. This left the Sigma M30. I have issues with this since day 1. If you closed and opened it on the remote it would trigger the immobiliser. Just using the key was fine. However take it to the garage and tell them not to use the remote. they obviously use the remote and I would then be sat in the car trying to start it, normally with the alarm going off and the car refusing to start in the end the only way to get it to comply was to turn the key fully and press the remote button. Thinking at some stage the immobiliser was going to completely immobilise the car somewhere very inconvenient I bit the bullet, the Sigma is now in a box in the shed. I now have central locking and unlocking and the car will start straight up. When the alarm was being fitted I asked him about the tracker that was fitted to these cars, it's a Type UK, that I had read about somewhere. Yes it was fitted but had been disconnected to avoid a catastrophic power drain.
  2. So I have a 2007 Impreza WRX STI Type UK. I bought it in 2000. So far I've not had a chance to use it very much. Bought in the era of lock down it was restricted for that reason. The small trips I had made with it gave me cause for concern with the oil consumption. The first long trip gave me even bigger concern last April gave me more concern. That resulted in a £3,300 engine rebuild after it was stripped and found to have terminal issues. A rebore, a set of Cosworth pistons, a new crank and some other bits fixed that. However it didn't go in for the work until the end of the year and I've only done 200 running in miles since. Among other issues were a cracked windscreen that just randomly, someone using an air gun on locking wheel nuts so tight that it stripped the nut and I had to get them removed, the cigarette lighter disintegrated whilst the GPS was plugged in. In January I had an advisory about a non structural rust hole near the jacking point. It went in last Monday to get a 50p hole sorted it's still there as it turned out to be smidgeon more than a 50p size issue.
