  1. sorry I am not very good with cars, bear with me... no from all service history and receipts cannot see engine rebuild. I don't have any oil on the ground or any leaks I can see in the engine. what I meant about not burning off was I could not see grey/white smoke from the exhaust.should I be placing my hand in the exhaust (when cold) and seeing if there is oil there? sorry where is the intake? the coolant level seems to be at the maximum line in the white expansion tank hot or cold- I usually check unscrew the metal cap and the coolant is always at the top, am I doing this wrong? if there is coolant loss what does that mean? are there other checks that I need to carry out?
  2. Cheers, I will leave the slick 50 for now and possibly carry on topping up the 5w30 for another 2 or 3k, but then change over to 10w40. I am planning on a oil and filter change every 5 or 6k.
  3. my 2.5 tiptronic legacy is burning oil. i serviced the car last month, using millers nano 5w30, but after less than 1.5ki have put in 1litre of oil. no leaks, no smoke, no oil in exhaust, no coolant loss, car runs quiet etc.is this normal? I drive in sports around town, 80% of time and above 69mph on motorway the other 20% the car has done 186k, my regret is that I should have used thicker oil, 10w40, perhaps.
  4. I think the filter is the way to go. I think there is so much that u can do with a NA engine and I dont want to spend more money on the car than its worth. In future, I may look out for a 3.0 spec b with lpg!
  5. I dont much know about cars or Subarus and personally don't like cars with too much kit, but the spoiler looks good on the car and enhances it. nice one
  6. i wanted it at the times i was doing a lot of A1 driving and needed a bit more as the a6 was a heavy car. it worked only for a few months, then i didnt need to do the trip- £370 !Removed! wasted, mind you it was very easy to sell the car!
  7. I thought remaps work on turbo only cars. I had one done on an a6 1.8t from colins motorsport, went from 150bhp to 190 on front wheel car, the traction and rev counter went beserk!
  8. thats interesting was expecting the other way going with v power. mod wise i the only thing i would go for is the filter, otherwise it is best starting with a different car. the bhp & torque is adequate, but its just me i just want a little bit more. in fact, I did want to buy the 3.0, but the mpg was too frightening, otherwise it is an awesome performance car.
  9. I am looking at some advice here. I use 95 Ron petrol and have always done this, but I am looking for a small improvement in performance and fuel, so should I go for... vpower or keep 95 ron and upgrade to a cosworth filter? Also can't afford both before you say it!
  10. Thanks guys. Issue sorted the a bit of wd40 and a blast of a few A roads and its all sorted. The car has been stood still for over 6 months and passed its MOT with no issues. I challenge other cars to do that. In fact I will go far as saying the forester is a fantastic car, feels solid and better built than my newer legacy. Thanks Gambit, needs to convince neighbour on other side now to convert.lol
  11. Thanks guys very useful advice- as always. Am happy that I will have a forester next door, a decent reliable vehicle you can rely on time after time
  12. My next door neighbour has an xreg forester 2.0 manual. I tried to hook my bluetooth adapter with the torque software and it does not recognise ecu, have i done something wrong? Also he has not drove the car for 6 months and it idles over 1.5k and when the engine warms up the revs are sporadic. I think it is may be the throttle body sensor or a maf/oxygen sensor. Any advice is appreciated.
  13. Yep agree, its all harmless bit of fun. anyway my excuse is im having a mid-life crisis at 43
  14. Hi, when I turn the ignition, I press the accelerator pedal a bit, creating some noise, a bit silly I guess.
  15. My 2.5 sports tourer on 186k, everything there besides missing load cover!
