  1. Bought a wheel boss kit for 1987 R reg impreza non turbo but now not needed change of plan boss kit only no wheel included no horn push but have resistor to beat air bag light Looking for £ 25.00 and will add FREE subaru original tool kit in the deal cash sale Crawley West Sussex
  2. 17 mm size of centre nut so i read
  3. centre steering wheel nut size s need to get right socket thanks
  4. only strange thing is how two plugs came a tad loose on one side sure cured the problem though yesterday was first chance to give it some welly since owning it maybe just shakedown glitch but sorted so thanks for advice
  5. UPDATE ====================================================================================================== turned out both left hand spark plugs were a little loose half a turn nipped up ticking noise gone didnt take the credit entirely luckily in asda at 06 30 am this morning bumped into an old school mechanic who diagnosed problem ========================================================================================================
  6. will have a look sound of ticking sounds under the power steering reservoir
  7. check oil levels regularly especially after longer runs and dont burn oil this ticking sound just appeared not overly loud with bonnet closed more pronounced bonnet open sounds like something touching but checked belt and seems ok only recently adjusted it thought dry bearing on alternator or something
  8. 1998 impreza non turbo looking into engine compartment engine ticking over mystery ticking around power steering pulley originally suspected alternator but ticking more to the left no oil leaks fan belt adjusted ok doesnt get any louder if you rev engine noticed left hand plug gap tops vibrating in direction of mystery ticking but right hand side not vibrating took left hand ones off individually and pushed down firm but there is minimum up down play on those on left engine not misfiring so caps must be well seated onto plugs any clues appreciated just came on about 100 miles into a 250 mile journey ======================================================================================= UPDATE Turned out both left hand plugs were a little loose half a turn nipped up and clicking noise gone =======================================================================================
  9. happy with exhaust but same reason on long journey bit tiring but i just love that sound even looked at them mr gasket butterfly valves and electric cut out valves but a bit of noise never bothered me after years of straight thru 4x4 s etc
  10. taken last week camera date not set
  11. just a couple of scooby art pics.
  12. Tried an exhaust bung today assuming might just knock a few decibels of the jap can but whilst i think it appeared better with some back pressure couldnt ever live with the exhaust note maybe that cracking n popping on over run needs to stay hence bung taken out and forgotten about forever Any one any input on bungs ?
  13. welcome great forum to be involved with
  14. the exhaust on when i bought car as standard headers cat converter a small 12 inch < silencer > then a straight through back box exiting 3.5 inch rear pipe so id assume not completely straight through so with some back pressure originally fitted apexi and on two identical runs it ran better without it but that was with apexi bolted direct to maf wheras i can now use a short 76 mm id silicon hose connection between maf and filter this leads me to wonder if it would make any difference if not apexi will be sold and idea shelved
  15. sourced the right inlet adaptor for the new apexi laying dormant in its new box considering giving it a second fitting as before it was bolted direct to maf maybe this time round with new better quality gaskets it might show some improvement my theory is i have a fairly free flow exhaust fitted so the whole idea way back was just to improve the breathing without other mods will reset ecu after fitting
  16. something i have considered as you say only an hours job assume refitting air bag and original wheel is reverse procedure and if connected properly airbag light will stay off storage of airbag during non usage between mots any suggestions also when disconnected without any power source is it safe to handle with care if positive comments suggest it is ok then ill fit my nice flat bottom wheel on the impreza what size is centre nut need to get right socket in half inch
  17. thats a long shot as round my way you darent sneeze they are so squeaky clean ( like their supposed to be ) only one who pushed the button got caught sending shock waves through the mot tester community no point fitting aftermarket steering wheel then get a mot fail shame as sourced all the parts
  18. well i had hoped to fit my flat bottom steering wheel having sourced an appropriate wheel boss kit and airbag resistor but concerned about mot implications next year which comes round quick any one got ideas / info on aftermarket steering wheels / lack of air bag etc and mot time ?
  19. picked up impreza this morning neither mechanic nor owner very forthcoming except to use words like < over engineering > and < sods law > but looking on the bright side they stripped and cleaned the rear brakes for free so cant complain just goes to show how enthusiastic and informed we are there is always something that comes along to surprise us mot garage very thorough no complaints there cos when i use the brakes its reassuring to know they are ok now time to contemplate modifications in the near future happy times are coming
  20. googled this < hill start device > and they list impreza forrester and legacy among 12 other manufacturers read the principles of it but seems over engineering to me had i gone to an mot station on level ground probably this wouldnt have come to light pick the car up in the morning so it will be interesting to hear the mechanics version of embarrasing events after stripping down rear brakes and doing it again prior to acquiring subaru knowledge
  21. mot guys were also amazed and learnt something new today
  22. Took the subaru impreza non turbo for straight forward mot but when they put the car in reverse on an incline in their workshop the rear brakes locked on hence it failed. took it in today for < rear brake repairs > which when drums taken off only some rust was found inside. Told car had passed mot then got a call saying it had failed cos rear brakes were sticking on. Next phone call saying car has passed mot and the problem was some adjuster that puts rear brakes on when reversing uphill. Any further info on this appreciated baffled them at the garage for a while.
  23. someone suggested maybe the switch polarity as motor seems to wind in one direction
  24. reckon ill get two new bulbs in the morning fuses ok rear lights ok cant be much else can it
  25. going to source a brand new one when finances permit
