  1. No Tidgy, this one's going back in the car as standard etc, but I have got two other blocks in my workshop that I might do something a bit special with.
  2. Hi all A little more progress since yesterday. Honed the cylinders out, installed new crankshaft, new con rods piston rings etc So at least the short block is nearly finished.
  3. Hi guys I'm sorry it's been ages since I last posted about my rebuild. I have been out of the country etc. Well I'm back now and back on it with a vengeance. Just received a few bits this morning so I'm starting to put it back together shortly after this post. Regards Adam
  4. No exotic upgrades for this one. It's gonna have a new crankshaft new rods new modine and high volume oil pump. I have a couple more ej20 lumps in my workshop I might do something with one of the others using forged parts in the future etc... but for the moment I'm just keeping this one standard ;-). The misses already complains because I'm spending too much time in my man cave lol.
  5. This is a friendly pointer to anyone new to this who is attempting to rebuild their scooby. You might be tempted to save a few quid and reinstall the modine oil cooler. My advice to anyone is bin it! Although this little puppy looks clean and however much you try to clean this, bearing fragments will undoubtedly be caught in all the little nooks and crannys. If I were to install this back on my new build I'm pretty certain that all those new bearings would get a coating of previous bearing fragments. That's just my friendly advice adam
  6. Also thought I would post the state of some of the shells... notice the tri metal coating has been stripped away. Knackered oil pump was the problem here.
  7. Well guys still going through the intense strip down period. Just thought I would upload a few more photos of work in progress so to speak. Although the parts have been cleaned just prior to re assembly everything will get sprayed with thinners etc to make sure it's all ultra clean.
  8. Yes mate started it last week, took the heads up to roe engineering in fleet this morning to be skimmed the Crankshaft will be replaced its badly scored also oil pump and the modine, they are magnets for metal swarf. should be a gooden when it's done :-)
  9. Hi all I'm new here I thought I would post a pic of my rebuild. My engine suffered a head gasket failure so I thought I would do the whole lot. It's a good job I stripped the engine the crankshaft was showing excessive wear on the main and big end journals. The bearings themselves had started shedding although it wasn't knocking it was ready to give up. Probably oil pressure failure.
  10. Hi all my name is Adam I am new to the forum. I have a 1997 wrx sti which I am currently in the process of rebuilding from a complete engine overhaul to bodywork etc.
