The Subaru WRX TT Attack car was developed specially to tackle the Isle of Man TT circuit in 2016 and to set a new lap record for a car. The base of the car was the Subaru WRX, using the same chassis. The engine block and heads were also based on the original two-litre unit found in the road car but with new internals. The transmission was the same six-speed semi-automatic transmission as used in the 2008 Subaru Impreza World Rally Car (WRC), but fitted with longer fourth, fifth and sixth gear ratios to allow the car to reach speeds of over 170 mph.
