    2004 Outback 2.5 Auto Possible issue, advice wanted.

    Hi all, new to Subaru and this forum. Wanted Outback or Forester for quite a while now, finally got hold of this outback (replacing a broken Volvo v70). Just did a large motorway stint in it and there is a feint, intermittent whining noise, seems to be only at motorway speeds and very quiet - can only hear it if the radio is completely off. diagnosis: only audible on motorway/at motorway speeds I tried switching to neutral at high speed and i think it stopped I couldn't work out the circumstances that made it appear as mostly it wasn't there (accelerating/decelarating/cruise/uphill/downhill/etc.) its a low mileage car (48K ish) however i am yet to check the engine number matches reg. Any ideas welcome Thanks Ben
