  1. Sorry Lads, I've sold it on , no space to keep it now I've replaced it, With a Ford, can't pretend I'm not disappointed, but many thanks for all your help and input over the last two months ................Kindest Regards Tony
  2. That was my first thought, big end bearings
  3. yeah op. stack is still on mate,I have a obd reader , but it's not picking anything up, all the pulleys on the front get very hot when it's running , I think it's probably heat transfer through the belts from the crankshaft.........Tony
  4. Hi to all, just before I consign the Legacy to the scrappy at the weekend, as a last ditch attempt to save it are there any members local to TN24 that may have a couple of minutes spare to pop round and give me a diagnosis of what the rattle is, and if it's terminal, I would hate to scrap it if it can be fixed for a few quid..................Cheers Tony
  5. After only 2 months owning a 2001 2.5 legacy outback , it came to a halt at Boreham services on the A12 coming back from a week in Great Yarmouth,no warning lights no temp.rise it just stalled on the exit ramp to the services, I managed to get going again ,but thought better call recovery £350 to get it back to Ashford Kent, I took it the 1/2 mile to work this morning (very slowly) ,the mechanics started it up and said sounds like it's thrown a big end shell, terminal I think ,I can get another engine from the Scooby breakers nr Canterbury for £1200 but it's coming from Holland!, so bit of a non starter that, so if anyone out there wants a broken outback with 4 brand new tyres on (budgets) £250 buys it.......
  6. More than likely bearing failure, not sure if I will replace it with another one yet,I got it dirt cheap £425 so not worth spending any more money on, it's already had 4 new tyres, only last week, you got to draw a line somewhere.....
  7. KILLED IT ! ! ! for sale spares or repair :(
  8. unfortunately can't tow a 4wheel drive auto, it has to be completely lifted.....
  9. AA wouldn't do it today would you believe ! had to phone 3 more recovery firms before finding 1 that was able to do it , took over 7 hours to get home , we were taken in a support vehicle ( astra estate with amberlights on top ) the car turned up an hour later on the truck.....
  10. Just got home from a week in Great Yarmouth, Well say got home, not really had to call recovery from boreham services on the A12,after the car stalled on the exit ramp into the services,No warning lights or gauges gave any clue as to what I was about to experience , after 2 or 3 attempts the car started but sounded really sad, a loud clatter from the top of the engine (I think) not too bad on tickover, but a whole new game when trying to drive, I checked the obvious ie water oil etc.all ok, so my next thought was oil filter blocked ? surely Subaru would have equipped the car with a light to warn of such a thing, (my old 1966 Austin 1100 had a oil filter light),however I'm now home from my hols. £350 short due to not having roadside assist, whadda ya think have I done it in ? is this the end!!!!
  11. I think it's all about how we drive our cars, If I had an Impreza I'd drive it a lot different to the way I drive my old farm truck Legacy,I only bought it to tow my daughters horsebox, so not much chance of any sideways action from me .....
  12. I only got them at that price coz I work for Micheldever tyre services , employees discount = cost price + £1,I had Autogrips on my previous car Focus 2.0 and they were much better than the Kuhmos I first had fitted,All the same still can't moan at the price !
  13. I knew there was a reason I continued to work for minimum wage, just bought 4 x 215/60/16 Autogrip 308 91v rated for £119.04, that's the cheapest I've ever paid could have had Geolanders for £65 a corner, but I didn't like them very much, the amount of off road driving I do doesn't warrant the noise and extra cost......
  14. Been 10 days now and no sign of the E.M. L. coming back on, looks like it was my fault for steam cleaning under the bonnet. Spoke too soon , The E.M.L. has raised it's head again, code 01 , can't find any ref. to it anywhere, at the same time the passenger side front window stopped working, after I erased the fault code the window started working again ....coincidence ???
  15. There were 2 or 3 codes stored , I erased them all , so I'll just wait and see which one comes back , and go from there ..
