  1. hi peeps... thought I would just let you all know that the Scoob is running absolutely fantastic still :-) safe to say that the power filter had obviously coated the MAF hot wire in crap & crud!!!
  2. Cheers guys, I think I am going to go with the Blue Cosworth because its gets a brilliant write up and seems to be recommended by you guys also. Car is still running fantastic! gave it another blurt last night at 4am around the industrial estate my unit is on and she ran beautifully!!! Its dry stored at the moment so I will get round to my other mods asap but probably after Christmas now because I am far too interested in my FireBlade build to be honest haha ^_^
  3. Awesome Was thinking of a TD05 turbo if im honest because that could be changed along with the decat system Other than that a set of yellow injectors and a panel filter from a cosworth impreza??? Will that fit? Once i have all that done then obviously a good remap on a rolling road then enjoy? :-)
  4. No one got any helpful tuning tips then?
  5. Awesome After what happened with the MAF i think i am just going to keep the standard airbox fitted but would like a better flowing panel filter... guessing K&N do one? The intercooler, now thats a good shout matey! I think tomorrow night i will spend a few hours straightening it out ;-) As for remap, i was thinking because mine is UK spec... what do i need to do to get around 300bhp from the car????? Its a big leap from its standard 225bhp (or round about) i know and it probably would be easier chucking all the import ECU etc on it but i dont want to go down that route!!! I was hoping a better flowing panel filter, full decat exhaust system, bigger injectors and then a remap should pretty much touch that bhp with ease???
  6. Such a shame really because a lot of the awesome induction noise has gone :-( But hey... its a small price to pay for having the scoob running nice again eh :-P The MAF did look a little discoloured when i started but when i finished, i showed my friend and even he agreed it was gleeeeeeeming haha shiny shiny Can anyone recommend a really good top of the range panel filter? Also im looking at getting a full decat system for the car (dont worry about MOT... i have connections), will it make a nice difference to the power delivery? If im right to understand... the facelift classic has 2 cats or boxes similar??? (1 on the down pipe from turbo and 1 under the car) im guessing this is VERY restrictive!!! Oh and also does anyone have a top mount cooler for sale? My silver one has certainly seen better days and all the fins have folded/creased Cheers
  7. Right then :-P I have changed ALL the 4mm hoses around the motor and only found 1 very slight split on 1 hose at the T piece above the turbo but i dont THINK it was leaking as it was literally on the end of the hose pipe and still snugly over the T piece itself... However a split is a split so i could be wrong??? I have refitted the standard airbox also... any info on a good filter for it for max hp will be appreciated :-) I took out the original failing MAF, the hot wire was looking pretty dirty to begin with! So i set to it with Brake Cleaner and a cotton bud and actually got quite a bit of dirt out!!! Now it shines lovely ;-) I put it all back together and have driven it 1st, 2nd and 3rd gear abosuletly flat out, full throttle, all the way to redline!!! Up and down the approx half mile road my unit is on. done this AT LEAST 10 times myself AND let my friend drive it up and down at least another 5 times just to check if a different driving style affected it? Well im happy to say that a fair bit of distance has been covered im sure you agree and all with FULL WIDE OPEN THROTTLE THROUGH 3 GEARS AND BY 2 DIFFERENT DRIVERS!!!!! not 1 Check Engine Light not 1 splutter not 1 pop not 1 !Removed! not 1 hesitation Dont want to jinx myself but HOPEFULLY i have sorted it :-) All i can do is drive it and drive it and drive it some more... if the problem comes back, back to diagnosing. Until then, thanks a lot for all your help so far guys :-)
  8. Right then guys... new silicone hose has arrived :-D Going to my unit tonight to fit that, fit standard airbox and see how she drives Will keep ya'll updated :-P
  9. Dont worry guys... just waiting for my 4mm silicone hose to arrive so i can swap all the pipes over and then refit the standard airbox, give the MAF a slight clean and lets see what happens :-) Probably not going to arrive until next monday or tuesday... gives me time to do a little more on my CBR900RR Fireblade build ;-) I will keep you all updated i promise
  10. 2000 Subaru Impreza UK spec, Turbo model Reg- W661 UAW Chassis- JF1GC8KD3YG052007 Model- GC8HK8D Engine- EJ205HW2KD Transmission- TY754VN1AA Trim- 830 Color- 792 4 Subaru dealerships have told me that part number- 22794AA010 is the correct MAF for my car according to reg and chassis number. Blue Print cross references that to part number- ADS77401C Hope that helps bud :-)
  11. JECs code??? Unfortunately my MAF is too old and weather worn that the numbers have worn off :-(
  12. And how do i do that? All the 4mm pipes that run everywhere, i did some old skool testing Phillips screwdriver in 1 end and air line in the other end... everything checked out fine but i am going to replace ALL the 4mm pipes to completely 100% rule them out :-) The large intake hoses i can only visually check OR as someone suggested on here... CAREFULLY spray some brake cleaner on the hoses and listen for a rise on tickover! To be fair, i would of thought a split in the large hoses would of been easily diagnosed because you should technically be able to hear it!!! But i could be wrong Think i need to get the standard airbox back on, go for another run and see how it behaves... if i feel a slight improvement then the induction kit will maybe have something to do with it, i can then change an MAF and see if it improves again
  13. Was that on the pipe from MAF to pipe going under the inlet manifold or the pipe that sits under the inlet manifold?
  14. Hi Savage, yes it has a Silver TMIC but it has always ran fine!!! I have no info on any mods such as remaps etc in all the paperwork The exhaust still has the standard system Would an induction kit be a problem? Only thing i have done to this is put an induction kit on and a dump valve! IN FACT I HAVE JUST REMEMBERED WHEN THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT FIRST CAME ON!!!!! i was in Scotland this summer with a friend camping, when we drove home it was absolutely p*ssing it down and i had the induction scoop and kit fitted!!! We drove over 280 miles home none stop in the Scoob at 60mph exactly (36.8mpg ;-) ) The next day i went to my friends house and got down my street and the check engine light flashed on and off! So i immediately pulled over, checked all fluids, electrical connectors etc... all seemed fine. So i carried on and for around 2 miles the light kept flashing then it went off. It did this for a few days and with no nasty noises and everything checking out correctly, i just kept my eyes on everything then suddenly it just stopped!!! After that is when it started playing up hesitating, juddering etc
  15. Im only running just short of 1 bar of boost.... certainly not high!!! Checked everything today... all is well... no leaks :-) So any other ideas? Im thinking of doing a continuity check between the wires from MAF to ECU just to rule out that i dont have a broken wire cauding all this... sound like a plan?
  16. It definitely is not a coil, lead or plug issue simply because of the big change in the way it drives when i change MAFs! with the MAF's i have tried, the car restricts, splutters and hesitates like i am towing an extremely heavy vehicle! With its original failing MAF, the car will run awesome for about a mile then start to have 2 or 3 hesitations through the rev range only at full throttle when driving... if it was a coil, lead or plug issue then the problem would be there almost instantly and constantly!!! The pipes i have carried out visual check, ive pulled and bent them etc and looked for splits, holes, cracking and so on but cant find a thing! Remember the only thing that shows up and has ever shown up on diagnostics is an MAF fault!!! I even tried the cars own diagnostic wires and its come back as MAF also! Please note that there is no Sigma crap alram on the car!!! That gave problems when we bought it back in march and when driving around randomly, it thought the car had been stolen and immobilised itself but would not run again!!! I checked relays, fuel pump and so on just to diagnose i definitely had a Sigma issue... which it did! So then i spent 7 hours removing the full system from the scoob! Glad i did actually because considering it was a Subaru fitted system in the UK, someone working fir Subaru had done a bit of wire twisting :-\ I soldered everything up CORRECTLY and ran beautifully......... oh and before anyone says the issue is probably something i did, i have drove over 6000 miles since then with no issues and i did check the wires again to see if i was having a bad connection fault but it is all awesome ;-) Just a quick question for everyone, there are pipes running absolutely everywhere on this car!!! Ive checked the pipe that connects to MAF body and there is a small pipe underneath it that then leads to a round plastic cylinder, another 2 pipes from that which them pipes then T piece to here, there and everywhere... should i check all of these pipes too? Also there is another large part of the intake that goes from the MAF and under the inlet manifold towards the turbo... should i check that? What about intercooler Y pipe? Just want to get as much info as poss so i can get a good head start on checking things over :-)
  17. well... interesting thing has happened, I bought an MAF 1 week ago from eBay at the price of £40.90 and the number is 22794-AA010 which as we have now verified, it IS the correct part for my Scoob. well the ebayer I bought it from CARSPARES-DIRECT has ripped me off BIG TIME!!!!! I fitted it to the car and it ran worse than its original, failing unit :( They had advertised a warranty of 1 year... I had bought it and within 1 week I tried it and it did not work. I contacted them regarding warranty AND/OR return but they failed to answer me. so I opened a case with eBay and somehow I have lost the reason I lost is because the seller said I purchased the wrong part for my car and damaged it by fitting it!!!!! how can it be the wrong part when we have already established with FOUR Subaru dealerships and Blue Print also that 22794-AA010 IS the correct part... clearly the cheap piece of crap is defective! eBay have still taken the sellers side which I have appealed against and they still f****d me off!!! :( So I am now stuck with a faulty NEW mass air flow that is correct for my car, from a seller that wont answer or honour any warranty issues despite clearly saying on the listing. so please anyone in future ***BEWARE*** of carspares-direct they will take your money and run! I hope this post gives enough warning that people will not give them ANY business online and that this thieving company loses a sizeable amount of profit!!! absolutely disgusting and shame on eBay for taking sides with daylight robbery
  18. right... I think I am getting somewhere now... FINALLY!!!!! :P just got some interesting info on the odd part number I received I have been in touch with 4 Subaru dealerships today ;) the first dealership asked for my registration (W661 UAW) and they confirmed that the part I need is- 22794AA010 the second dealership asked for my chassis number (JF1GC8KD3YG052007) and they confirmed that the part I need is- 22680AA301 ... this number is for a COMPLETE unit (body, sensor, screws... the lot!) which Subaru don't supply anymore so I would have to buy the sensor separately and that number has been confirmed as- 22794AA010 the third dealership asked for my registration (W661 UAW) and they confirmed that the part I need is- 22794AA010 and lastly the fourth dealership asked for my chassis number (JF1GC8KD3YG052007) and they confirmed that the part I need is- 22794AA010 So it looks like I need part number 22794AA010 lol I have just cross referenced Subaru's part number with Blue Print and it comes back as- ADS77401C I should of been a private investigator! B)
  19. I have just called a third dealership who asked me for my chassis number (JF1GC8KD3YG052007) and they have given me the same part number as the first dealership i called who only asked for my registration (W661 UAW)- 22794AA010 So interesting that the first dealership asked for reg number and third asked for chassis number and they both give me the same part number. Still baffled at why the second dealership i called asked for a chassis number also and gave me a completely different number!?
  20. WELL.... this is certainly an odd situation i am in now! I have just called 2 Subaru dealerships, i wont name which but they a well established and have parts departments. First dealership asked for the registration number (W661 UAW) and told me the MAF for my car is- 22794AA010 Second dealership asked for the chassis number (JF1GC8KD3YG052007) and they told me the MAF for my car is- 22680AA301 They bpth told me them numbers do not superseed to any others... SO WHICH F*****G ONE IS RIGHT???!!!!!!!!
  21. The ECU has been reset each time yes As for the piping, i will take that off today and check it :-) Is there any other pipes or hoses i should check??? Also my Impreza is UK spec so is it still possible to check on import car parts?
  22. I will try this in the morning :) is it worth replacing with a silicone one to rule it out just in case??? and just to clarify that a leak in the plastic pipe from the MAF to the engine can cause all this PLUS a CEL?
  23. I cant see any causes of a leak on the intake pipe and don't know if it would matter but I don't have any exhaust leaks either the car idles perfectly and drives normally but as soon as I put my foot FLAT down, it will get going and then feel like I have all of a sudden tried to tow a van behind... that's the best way to put it! but when it does it, it will jerk between full power and the feel of towing a heavy vehicle behind!!! its really annoying as for colour codes, my MAF is not the typical unit with a big square on the top and a colour, it is a smaller sensor that is held in by 2 torque head screws... if that makes sense? no colour code on them, just numbers but mine are too worn off to read :(
  24. Hi, thanks for replies... yes I have checked for air leaks but cant find anything! :( would a leak in the inlet pipe make it run the way it does? throwing up a CEL and hesitate under full throttle?
  25. Hi all, new Scooby owner... PROUD OWNER :P I have a 2000 'W' reg Impreza Turbo Facelift Classic AWD UK Spec it is a GC8 model with an EJ205 motor needless to say, I've been having LOADS of fun in it well... that's up until I started getting a terrible hesitation and loss of power during full power only way to describe it is like driving full throttle and then its like hitting a brick wall... complete loss of power for half a second say! hasn't done this in a while now, lately it seems to just lose power intermittently like a choke is stuck on it has only flashed a 'CHECK ENGINE' warning light up very briefly and not all the time! happily it was enough that the diagnostics showed an MAF (Mass Air Flow) fault... but the BIG problem is the numbers on my sensor have worn off with age... now I cant find the right sensor for my car :( I have tried 2 sensors already but both completely wrong! first was a brand new ADS77401C which Blue print say is right for the car when checked against the registration number... sadly it clearly isn't right because that particular sensor made my Subaru run VERY erratically!!! it was popping, farting, juddering etc... to be honest a Ford Escort would of left me standing!!! second was a local car breaking for spares, EXACTLY the same model, year etc everything apart from 1 digit on the engine code was different, well I tried it anyway and this ran the car as if it was a non turbo... no boost at all! as if it was stuck on choke (this is the only way I can describe it sorry... no power at all). now to cancel out any other faults such as a breaking down coil and so on, I cleared the ECU each time and every engine flash only shows on diagnostics as an MAF sensor fault... to also cancel out other issues, I have refitted the original MAF sensor each time and it runs like a dream in comparison with hesitation only happening 2 or 3 times on full throttle through each gear. It would be such an easy fix if I could get the number from my original MAF but sadly life throws a lot of obstacles my way :( CAN SOMEONE HELP ME????? someone must have the answer I need... if it helps, here are relevant specs so my hero can find the EXACT sensor I need- model- GC8HK8D engine type- EJ205HW2KD (the one I tried from the car breaking for spares was a 1KD... didn't think it would of mattered but it did!!!) hoping a Subaru Guru can help me out asap :) Thanks in advance, Ste. Sorry to admin if this is in the wrong part of the forum... newbie so please bare with me
