your right it is........ it makes me smile when it hits full boost in 3rd gear :D Thanks man :) new drilled & grooved discs with mintex fast road pads due to arrive on thursday / friday. never been fitted, still packaged up from when they were bought 2 months ago and getting them for half what the guy bought them for on ebay too..... so looks like another bargain has been had :)

The tax is the same on an 05 wrx and an 05 STI. For me, the insurance on the STI was £158 more expensive than my wrx 300. Bearing in mind that with mine having the PPP fitted that it will only be around 10bhp down on what a stock STI is power-wise. Also, for me to buy an STI the same age and mileage as my wrx300 iit would've cost me at least another 2k on top of what I paid. That's what made me chose mine over the STI. Plus the fact that I don't wanna go chasing big power. The td04 turbo is maxed out at 280-290bhp. You want more power you need to upgrade the turbo. -

snap mate........... basically had vw/vag cars all my life apart, had a 6n polo, 9n polo, mk2 gti 16v, mk3 vr6, mk4 gti tdi 150, mk4 v5 20v, bora tdi highline and a leon cupra r..... now its all scooby :D a blobeye gx sport wagon, a forester 2.0 XT and now the blobeye wrx 300 B) i have got a wee 10plate 5dr corsa sxi that i bought to replace the knackard 06plate astra the missus had and to share the mileage with the scooby. its cheap as chips to run, insure and road tax :D and suits her perfect for running about with the wee one -

The tax between March 01 and March 06 is based on emissions. But then in March 06 it got more strict. Hence how you can get a 55plate R32 that's 280 a year road tax but an 06 is 465 a year. It's the same with the scoobies. A 55plate hawkeye wrx is £280 a year but an 06 plate is £465 a year. It's a joke considering how bad the condition of the roads are. It's about time they spent some of the road tax money on actually looking after the roads and repairing them -

Its only post March 06 that you get hit with the mega £465 a year road tax March 01 - March 06 your £280 a year for tax The classics are £225 a year since they were before March 01, back in the good old days when things went by engine size only and not emissions Most of the main points are covered in the guide posted up by gambit -
How the rear looks now: Backbox sits at a nice angle..... and sounds awesome. The father-in-law did comment on how clean the car is underneath.... even the gearbox still has the original wax oil coating from new. No CEL as of yet........ hopefully it stays like that. I know when i done the decat on my Leon Cupra R it took nearly 60miles for it to register a fault code, so keeping my eye on things. Got the chance of a cheap walbro 255 pump... just depends on how cheap, as you can buy them for relative cheapness new. Just waiting on my discs n pads arriving now, then its MOT time.

The backbox sits just right, a nice angle and slightly upwards. I was told it did require some manipulation to get it to fit 100% perfect. Its got a nice turbo howl when on boost, and some pops too. Its a 4.5" straight cut exit. Will need to get a picture of how it sits underneath. I'm a bit scared of the speedbumps around here now as i'm still trying to gauge how low the exhaust sits now, especially around about where the rear diff is. No sign of the CEL as of yet, but only done 26 miles since its been fitted. -

well had it on its first decent drive this morning..... 26miles into work..... about 95% of the journey is duel carrigeway with a couple of roundabouts on the last 5miles for giving it the beans off of B) i have to say its not too bad sitting at the national speed limit..... not too intrusive. win win for the £40 bargain :D -

i'll only run the bung on cold start then remove it so i don't get the neighbours complaining, possibly on really long journeys where i'm only going to be cruising at 65-70 off boost. i can't see how the owner thought the system was too quiet...... i've done some research and everyone says that these systems are quite loud lol. -

well my car has been dropped off this morning..... and by the time i get home it should be on :) the guys coming back down to drop off the up-pipe that he never got around to having fitted and also drop off the bung insert for the backbox. The system looks brand new....... was chancing my luck at getting it for free, he wanted £50 for it.... i offered £30...... he said no lol. In the end i paid £40 for it :D -
Don't worry about it mate.... I'm still a novice when it comes to subarus.... I rely on my father in law who is a subaru specialist an my mate at GI Motorsport who remaps them. It'll be my mate that does the remapping..... If I could justify the £500 and 11weeks waiting list I'd have Andy Forrest remapping it. He is a legend when it comes to subarus. I'm sure he has the fastest street legal impreza in the country that does the 1/4 mile in 8.2secs lol. With the classics it's a bit more expensive as you need to change the ecu or piggy back as you say. With the newage, it has a lot more electronics involved. Time will tell when I get the car down to my mate if this exhaust fits the bill. He told me that even without decatting e can still find another 15bhp on top of what the prodrive ecu does, so there is room for improvement. The td04 maxes out at 280-290bhp. If you want more power you need to change the turbo

well the guy is heading in today to have the exhaust removed, so i'll be able to get a look at it after work and make a decision. -
I've been told you can get away with that on the classics, but to do that on the newage is asking for problems..... to get the full benefit of the decat and stop the dreaded overboost that will kill the turbo, plus eliminate any chances of the engine running lean i'm having the car mapped. The car has the prodrive ecu at the minute and running approx. 260bhp. After fitting a new fuel pump and mapping i should be up to 280-290bhp and thats as far as i can go with the TD04 turbo. i'm hoping so..... the guy should be heading in to the father in laws work today.

To cut a long story short, was heading to work on saturday morning and when i started the car up the exhaust sounded like it was starting to blow slightly :( get home from work that night and phone the father-in-law about getting the car on to one of the ramps at his work. He then tells me that it just so happens that hes got a customer coming in who has a full decat system on their bugeye wrx that he finds is not loud enough for him, so hes upgrading. So his old system is going to be going for either free or very cheap. its either a japspeed or toyosports system. anyone had any experiance with toyosports exhausts. i know that a full decat system can be bought from them for £250 so they are really cheap, but supposedly they are made in the same factory as japspeed so will probably be of similar quality to them. it will probably only be on the car until i have the money to get the exhaust of my choice, so surely its worth a shot if i get the lot for £50 or less? -
Discs and pads to be ordered on friday :) On another note though...... exhaust has got a blow somewhere :( just so happens there is a guy going into the father-in-laws work to have a full stainless decat system removed from his bugeye as its too quiet for him :ambivalence: and hes upgrading to something else louder, probably a nur spec lol. think its either a japspeed or toyosports system..... its only a few months old and they can be bought new for pretty cheap so hoping i can get it for much cheapness if not free..... just need funds for getting the decat mapped in.

i ripped all the under bonnet insulation/sound deadening off and chucked it......... now my dump valve sounds louder :D -
Got a few updates coming shortly...... its MOT time end of August and tax is due end of August too so its gonna be an expensive month :( I know the rear discs and pads will be needing done, they were an advisory last MOT and i know the pads are low. So i think i'm gonna take the oppourtunity to uprate and do the fronts & rears at the same time. Drilled and grooved discs all round with mintex fast road pads should surfice..... especially at £170 all in :) As far as i'm aware, the car shouldn't need much else if anything. The car is pretty solid with no creaks, knocks or bangs. Then it'll be 6months tax going on...... then i don't have to worry about TAX & MOT being due the same month again.

I had been looking at the H&S systems but after looking at the cobra website i think i might swing towards them. they do a full 3" decat system with non res centre and 3.5" inward rolled tip for £550 the track system has the slightly larger 4" inward rolled tip, is 3" decat with low noise levels.... and en extra £50 hmmmmmm..... decisions decisions lol.

i like the look of the last turbo back system they list there for the newage impreza wrx / sti. full decat with non res centre and a 3.5" inward rolled tip for £550........ thats much cheaper than the hayward & scott system i was looking at. even the cat back with the slightly bigger 4" inward rolled tip is only £315 :) -

Mine was the uk model.... Running the baby td03 turbo which is maxed out at 210-220bhp. Only had 179bhp standard lol -

I sold my forester because if I wanted more than 220bhp I needed to change the turbo, but then I'd have needed a bigger tmic or a fmic fitted, bigger injectors, bigger fuel pump etc etc. I knew I would crave more power so I knew I had to sell. Plus mine was a 53plate with 135k on the clocks and had a ****** of an oil leak :( On a side note..... The biggest reason for a remap post-decatting is to control boost and the way the turbo spools up. When decatted the turbo can spool so much quicker..... But this can allow big boost spikes that will kill the turbo. If and when I decat my wrx.... I'll be making sure I have the funds to remap straight away.
