Thule 9104 bike rack on 2004 Forester

Has anyone managed to fit a Thule 9104 boot mounted bike rack to fit on a 2004 Forester? I had a quick look at it tonight and it doesn't seem to fit. The hooks that hang on to the top of the boot don't fit down the gap between the roof and the boot. I guess I could modify them slightly, but, a little reluctant to do that.
