Gen 5 Petrol Outback

Hello All

I'm in the market for a 5th Generation Outback (or possibly  3.6 litre 4th Generation). I used to know Subaru as an ultra reliable and dependable car. Right up there with the best of them. Increasingly I'm not so sure. Do please advise: are recent problems myths or reality. For example, I hear that the automatic gearbox is troublesome; the electronics can be temperamental and that there can be radiator and suspension problems. Are these design fault issues or one offs? Am I better off with a manual Forester for example or do these have weaknesses as well? Any advice welcome.
