Gambit Posted October 26, 2013 Share Posted October 26, 2013 American actress Marcia Wallace - best known as the voice of Edna Krabappel in The Simpsons - has died at the age of 70. The comedic actress found fame as receptionist Carol Kester in the 1970s sitcom The Bob Newahart Show, and was also a regular game show panelist. As the voice of Simpson's schoolteacher Edna Krabappel - known for her barking laugh - she appeared in more than 100 episodes and won an Emmy Award for the role in 1992. Edna was seen looking for love throughout The Simpsons, and married Ned Flanders in the show's 23rd series. Yeardley Smith, who voices Lisa Simpson, tweeted: "Cheers to the hilarious, kind, fab Marcia Wallace, who has taken her leave of us. Heaven is now a much funnier place b/c of you, Marcia." US radio show host Frank De Caro tweeted this morning: "Our dear sweet friend Marcia Wallace has died. A walking lesson in comedy. Long live Carol Kester and Edna Krabappel."
