Not Going Above 3/4 Thousand Revs

Hi .... new to this and new to owning a old Subaru...... so I'll get on with it ..... 1994 import wrx wagon auto box won't go above 3 to 4 thousand revs for some reason..... seems to be the point also when it changes gear and happens more so when I put my toe down .... the car was left on land I bought for approx 10 years .... I had it brought up to "driveable" mot standard... also the speedo doesn't work .....

Anyone's help would be appreciated as I'd like to get it up to a good driving and looking standard with the help of forums like these and the help of experienced people
