Regrettable sale as this was going to be my retirement project. All the mechanics have been done on this car, brakes, suspension, engine etc. Will require welding for the MOT which is beyond my abilities both technically and physically.

I'm considering buying a 2018 2.0 impreza and was wondering if the cars are actually any good? Reviews I've seen on them don't fill me with a lot of interest to be honest, slating the lethargic engine and whiny gearbox. So what are the opinions of the people who actually own them? Thanks

So new battery, fuel filter, plugs, oil and filter I turned the key. But I wasn't getting any joy from the fuel pump as it wasn't getting sufficient voltage. So I connected a battery charger to it and voila

Decided that I'd reuse it with sealant and do a pressure test of the cooling system but the waterpump seal had gone and I'm still waiting for a new pump to arrive from Japan. So after replacing the cam, crank, sump, exhaust, turbo seals and gaskets and a little bit of tarting up I decided to put it back in a fire it up.

Well I bought this a couple of months ago having not been run for around 3 years. Soon found out why it hadn't been run.

So I gave up waiting for the waterpump to arrive from Subaru and decided to put the engine back in. Everything has been cleaned, degreased and had new gaskets and seals fitted.

So I've found the culprit, it had spat a freeze plug in the RHS head. Been replaced and gasket set arrived for the re assembly. I've just rebuilt the oil pump and have cleaned just about all the oil galleries I can get to. Sump is off with new paint drying. Plan is to refill with oil and spin pump with a cordless drill to prime system and blow through any remaining sludge. Once new seals have arrived from Japan I'll rebuild the cam towers, refit everything removed and drop the engine back in and fingers crossed.

So I've decided to pull the engine out to give it a good check over, Am considering just replacing the whole thing In one hit, but unsure what would go back in its place with the minimum of fettling. Any ideas ???

Thanks I'll look them up. Went to pressure test the cooling system today and was a complete fail. I put 5 litres of water in the rad and it ended up straight in the sump, Guessing this is hopefully a gasket failure rather than a cracked head. Will hopefully begin the strip down tomorrow

Thanks I was thinking that would be the most sensible thing to do. Might give Subaru a ring and price a full gasket set up.

I'm guessing it's heads off, sump off if it's do able, turbo out and check for damage? Guessed that's why it hasn't run in 2 years and why there was no battery with it.

Not a great start unfortunately. car didn’t want to leave the transporter as the osf brake was locked up. Once I’d removed the caliper and found the dust boot mullered I could roll it over the pit to drop the oil as it was way over the upper mark. Thats when it got worse. So I went for a pint

Hi all Just about to become an XT Turbo coupe owner for the second time after owning one in the early nineties. Back then parts were scarce and I'm guessing it hasn't got much better 30 yrs on 😎. Wondering if there are any other XT owners on here? Car should be arriving tomorrow hopefully so it will be over the pit and given a full assessment then.
