FITTING DASH CAMS
I know this is an old post but thought I'd reply as it might help someone in the future. Yes, you can tuck the wires above the cameras in the headlining. The push up much further than the cameras so no issues. I used a hardwire kit and have front and rear cameras and haven't had any issues at all. The only thing I wasn't able to find was a permanent live as even with multimeter, when tapped they just didnt work!

First Month Update Living with my Outback
Thought I'd start a new thread as things have been progressing. When I bough it, it had a new battery, service, MOT and any advisories fixed. I've done the following: Fuel treatment for the first tank Cabin filter CVT oil change (at Subaru) Cabin filter OEM Front, rear, boot & rear seat back rubber matts OEM Rubber arches OEM Rubber side protectors New wipers Hardwire front & rear dashcam (but can't find a permanent live for parking mode!?) Cleaned engine bay Cleaned the MAF sensor Treated most of the underside with ACF-50 I looked to fit a 12v socket in the boot but wasn't sure about what I would be tapping so thats on hold. I think this car has previously just been used as a car. No love. So I'm getting on top of maintenance and longevity. Does anyone know what the deal with the delaminating screens in the UK is? Are they covered or at least recognised by subaru or are they not interested? Things I would like to do if I happen to find them: Replace the steering wheel plastics for OEM (have looked but don't wont temu special!) Replace or repair electronic handbrake switch (chrome wrap has come off so looks messy) I have a TPMS issue that I'm getting the dealer to sort (but they are slow) which I think is a battery issue in one of the tyres. Is there a cheat way that I might be able to reset or see what one it is? Have googled and youtubed to death! 😂 I recently did a 1000 miles over a couple of weeks in the hottest weather and then super storms and rain. During this time it didn't miss a beat! Returned 40mpg on the long parts in sun and 34-36mpg on the rain - both with the AC on. The eyesight cruise worked in the bright sun and heavy rains. The directional headlights and auto full-beams were great on the country roads. The AWD worked well on stoney beaches and rough ground. I did notice what sounded like over-revving going up steep hills but having watched the reviews before I bought it, it then made sense what people were saying. Overall, this is now my perfect everyday car!

High Millage new or Lower and older
I would expect better spec, more modern and higher comfort levels. I have a 2018 and i miss having heated steering wheel and 12V socket in the boot, both of which I think the MY20 has. I think more trim level were introduced with touring being the top spec

I was in the same position as you. I would take a view on the individual car you find. I bough a 2018 with high miles but it had full main dealer service history, newish tyres and good MOT history. The dealer I bought from serviced it, put it through MOT and then replaced anything that came up as an advisory. They also took it to main dealer who serviced the gearbox (which I paid for). The car is super smooth and did 41 mpg using cruise on the 100 mile drive back. You'll also get a warranty if you buy from dealer so theres a small safety net too.

Is the 5th Gen 2.5i Really Under-Powered?
I'm currently looking for a 5th Gen diesel, BUT... After watching all the youtube Outback reviews in the world, many of them said the 5th gen petrol was underpowered so I kind of dismissed it. With work I sometimes have to drive hundreds of miles and then into a field or down tracks with a loaded up boot and passengers BUT as i'm finding it difficult to find a suitable diesel, I'd love to hear from petrol owners if theres a noticeable lack of power going up inclines with loaded cars. I'm also considering A/T tyres and even a lift (1.5-2in) but with less torque in the petrol, I'm thinking a lift might be wasted? I'm coming out of a BMW 540i G31 which had all the power, space and comfort but it was set up for speed. I don't expect the Outback to be the same but i'd like it to be 'capable'. I mostly got low to mid 30's loaded and in eco during spring/summer, I could get 42-44 with normal luggage in the back! How does that compare? Has anyone set their cars up to be a little more 'off-road'? Thanks
