  1. Hi everyone. The garage is very uncertain of the location and risks involved in removing / smashing/ /cutting / snipping the reversing and gear engaged beep heard in our 2002 Forester. The Scooby - as might have heard me mention before - is primarily The Dog Cart - and the beep when we first engage gear from neutral, and again when we engage reverse, means that neither dog will now go into the car for fear of something untoward happening. Firstly where is it actually located - and secondly- is there a sensible method for disabling the noise without harm to some system? Also do any of you by any chance know a decent and reasonable body shop to do some rust and paint of La Scuba within 10 miles of Faringdon or 5 of Swindon? Many thanks indeed in advance T
  2. I won't have time now, but a major investigation will now take place. I will probably revert with further info. Thanks for all the v. useful help.
  3. Thanks to you all. Mr B - hugely helpful on advice; bitman - whom I assume had the car sink under him; Gambit - a very individual pose and Jay. Lovely welcome.
  4. Thanks everyone, really helpful insight. Especially getting complete kit. Tom
  5. Hi again. Not sure how much of that I followed. There is no alarm, both keys are in and out, I.e. they sometimes don't work, but both have new batteries. Not sure what antennas might cause this problem. I use the word transponder cos the garage did! So what does the key talk to that translates the radio signal to a command to lock or unlock the doors. Whatever that is might be the problem?
  6. HiThere is no alarm, just the two keys with Lock and Unlock buttons
  7. Background: 2002 Forester just passed MOT. Both key fobs were "in & out" on central locking - batteries replaced - still very hit and miss. Garage reckons transponder is on the blink. So the question is: Is there a fix or is it a replace - in which case does one have to reset the keys or find the code from the keys themselves to put in the transponder. Anyone know the form or had a similar problem. Is there a work round rather than having a man charge me the price of the car to fix the central locking? Many thanks As always your help is appreciated.
  8. I have now had two cambelts fitted - no sympathy needed, they were different cars - and both cost around £450, because "....getting to the engine is so difficult guv" OR "parts is so expensive gov" (different garages different Guvs). What do you reckon to pay or what would you think is reasonable for a 2002 replacement cambelt incl fitting?
  9. Never realised there was a community before. Hello to you all. The third Forester has arrived in the drive and once again the dogs will have the ability to travel in comfort, safety and with a view. The first was bought new in 1998 and almost died in a ghastly cambelt failure. Whilst waiting for that to be repaired, we bought a second hand replacement which was a "W" reg - very giddy stuff. The "R" reg was sold to some people who sold it immediately to some other friends, who took the Subaru's robustness to mean it was the perfect vehicle for a ram-raiding jaunt. Apparently, or so the local police informed us, the Forester is the Tool of Choice for Ram Raiders!! The "W" reg then died in the flood - thanks to a hidden, Network Rail steel shovel which had fallen from the railway bridge and then disappeared into two feet of water. The shovel dug in and ripped the plate and killed the engine in about two seconds. So now we have gone Silver (the previous were all green) and have got a 2002 All Weather non turbo with 95k on the clock. I'll bore you with my needs in other messages later, but for now, Hello! Tom
