Hi all !! I havn't visited this forum for a long time now, but the old Impreza is still going well with 180k miles on it.. But a few weeks ago I disturbed two Monkeys trying to steal it. the police came, and then "forensicly siezed" it for 5 weeks.!!! the damage is only to the drivers door (screwdrivered the lock out) now i'm looking for another lock barrel for a 1998 gc8 plus a key..anyone have one, or know where to obtain a replacement? Cheers Steve.

Hi My 1998 jdm impreza wrx sti has developed a lot of noise from the offside rear wheel, I suspect bearing failier. the question is. Is it a fairly simple job to remove the hub and press out the old bearing, and press a new one in ? Cheers Steve,

Well I bought a set of plugs, and some injector cleaner. Decided to use the cleaner first to see if it made any difference and after adding it to a couple tankfuls the problem has gone!! Will fit the plugs at a later date. So all good.. Cheers Yoss.

Hi everyone I have a imported 1998 Version 4 imported STI 4door, i have developed a misfire between 2-4k rmp on full throttle, seems to occur on full boost and clears once above the effected rev range. once above 4k it pulls like a train but it seems to drop into a misfire whilst building boost. Ive cleaned the MAF/checked all silicone joiners, it has got iridium plugs/standard intercooler/standard recirc BOV and Ive cleaned all of the visible electrical connections. Any suggestions/common failures?? it has covered 160,000 miles with replacement head gaskets/skim heads 4,000 miles ago. never had any running issues before and i am scratching my head as to why its happening now! Cheers Yoss

Well the engine went back in, and is sounding sweet!! Took it for MoT today and Passed! So all good.. Thanks again to Savage Bulldogs for all the help. Cheers Yoss.

Thanks the clutch is now OK. But time has flown by and haven't got on with it much. Next question. Cam sealing. Have put in new oil seals, Do I put any sealant under the the first cam bearing/seal cap? Don't like doing it. But some forums say its needed, and its easy to do while the engine is on the bench.

Yeah I think so!! It looks as though I need to remove the clutch cover. Is that right? if so I will have to make up an alignment tool.

Engine should be going back in this weekend if all goes well. what is the correct method of refitting the clutch fork and pin? The thrust bearing seems to be attached to clutch on this model, all the online videos show a conventional setup. Probabley quite easy but want to make sure before I have to lift the engine in. Cheers Yoss..

Yeah thanks, I have looked on his website. has everything I need on it.. How do you go about getting the right thickness head gasket ?
-
Well things going along OK so far, heads are off ready for skimming, Bores look good, Bit of wear but No scoring! So just a matter of cleaning everything up. The toothed cam belt idler is noisy, so will need replacing. £20 ebay or (£165+vat dealer)... It had a new belt and tensioner not that long ago so that should be fine. Going to fit either Cosworth or Roger Clarke head gaskets, as much the same price and spec. So far So good!!

Well it didn't overheat just pressurized the radiator, lots of bubbles after a spell on boost. Had a sniff test done to confirm it. But.....it had new head gaskets fitted 4000miles ago by a "Subaru specialist" who to be fair had done good work on my cars in the past, but unfortunately is no longer trading. So decided to remove the engine myself with my sons help and take it from there. Thanks for your help, I shall probably be back for more..

Thank you very much, I thought it had to come out, but it seemed quite tight so left it alone till was sure about it..

Hi The fuel pump on my classic1998 wrx sti (import) has failed. Can anyone recommend where to find a replacement one. there are lots on the internet, that are "uprated" and the car may need a retune after fitting. I just want a new on Cheers Yoss.

Hi My 98 gc8 sti needs a new radiator, looking at Alloy ones. Mishimoto, quite expensive! Supeed motor, much less. Anyone had any experience of Supeed rads? or similar. Cheers Yoss.
-
Hi My GC8 classic wrx has started to overheat. I think the thermostat is the problem, because the temperature gauge gets very near the top, while the radiator is only hot one end. (its had a new rad 6 months ago). Where is the stat located, possible to run without it to eliminate it as the trouble. Cheers Yoss.

Hi i dont do any track time, but the loud peddle does get a little use! it is still on the standard STI four pots which I'm not looking to upgrade, just wondering what manufacturer disc/pads i should go for via the internet, or do i just pop down to the local autofactors and order from there?? cheers yoss

I'm thinking of upgrading the brakes on my 1997 WRX STI Imported GC8, i would like to retain the original calipers and mounts, just want to replace the discs and pads. there are lots of aftermarket options available, not sure if the imported version is different to the UK version or WRX? any preference on size/make? Any help much appreciated cheers Yoss

Hi Thanks I've found the Opie oils page. Wasn't sure about an LSD additive as my manual is in Japanese. Anyway going for Fuchs titan syn 5 75/90 in the diff and 75/90 semi in the box. Cheers Yoss.

Morning Just a quick question, what oil is recommended for the transmission on my 98 classic jdm wrx sti.? Cheers Yoss.

Quick update. The Eurocarpart radiator was unsuitable. While it did fit by swopping the top and bottom mountings off the old rad, the small inlet pipe at the top from the header tank was blocked off inside (I flushed it with a hose before fitting it). Took it back to Euros and they found the others in stock were the same. Said it was probably from a faulty batch? and gave me my money back. All good. Anyway, found a company called Arrow Radiators from Melksham who supplied a new one for just under £100. Still had to swop the top mounting plate, but then it fitted straight in. Thanks for all your assistance. Yoss
