Is difficult as Impreza prices are very strong atm. Patience is key and get in there when a good deal comes up. Saw this recently for £950 but it sold in a day or so! http://www.scoobynet.com/subaru-444/1037407-modified-ltd-578-1000-wrx-v2-sti-8-block.html Best of luck with the hunt fella

Yeah completely agree, that's one of the reasons i'm walking away from this one in Welwyn garden city. Subaru shopping=absolute minefield -

Lol fair enough, I think I had better start looking further afield! Just spoke to the dealership about the prodrive Subaru and they have no prodrive certificate for it and no service book. Apparently the contacted the garage who did the MOT last year who confirmed they did the cambelt at the same. He's not willing to move on the price so I think I'm going to swerve this one... ...the search continues... -

Thanks for the warning Gambit, I've even heard stories online of people going as far as stripping the prodrive bits out of a prodrive car and selling them on. There was one guy who got his PPP STI rolling roaded and found out it was only putting out about 250. Luckily this one has been fully serviced and looked over by Bulldog in Twyford who seem a very genuine bunch of guys. Unfortunately though the owner has already sold it to a guy in Wales! Must have been a pretty tidy example for someone to travel that far -

Well I’ve spoken to my local dealer (bulldog twyford – really nice bunch of guys) and they can’t find the prodrive scoobie on their system so feels like it probably hasn’t had the kit fitted from standard. Also, looking at the chassis number, he reckons it might be a parallel import which alone isn’t a massive problem but coupled with the lack of history and stuff this is beginning to look a bit susp. On the bright side he thinks he might know someone trying to sell a WRX 300 with a full dealer history, recent new rear shocks etc, etc… possible deal to be done! :) -

How many miles do you do? Just given FB tuning in Risborough a shout to see if he does pre-purchase inspections which handily he does. Really nice guy and gave some helpful advice and food for thought! -

That is a huge amount, especially given it is ultimately a performance car. I've always known that scoobs were pretty well made but 240k is a stack. I've currently got a Honda diesel and you can say what you like about it being dull but it is an absolute tank. Currently on 89k and never needed anything. Well the Cambridge guy turned down my offer of £2,200 (not entirely surprised) as he's got 2 guys and a company coming to look at it at the weekend. He said he's only done 6000 miles since march when the brakes were changed and the oil has been done in line with the service schedule which means it's probably been done at least every 5k. Do the scoob service books officially dictate that an oil change is required every 5k or is this something that only gets done as often as it needs if the owner knows what they are doing? -

Can't say i disagree buddy altho still think the classics still look best. That bein said that silver bug gambit posted was a pretty nice looking motor. I'm still pretty relaxed about sacrificing the looks a bit if i save a bit of dosh on a well looked after, low milage bug rather compared to the hawk/blob equivalent. People say don't buy a scoob on milage but surely a low milage one with a full history has gotta be reasonably safe bet? On a side note why do herts seem to have no reputable scoobie specialists... -

Ok cheers gambit, still waiting to hear on whether they have the history. By the sounds of things it was part ex'd at a dealership then i think these guys bought it from the dealer so potentially two peoples worth of profit on it by the time i get to make an offer but hopefully the main dealer will have passed it on at cost/a loss to shift a new car Thanks for the links matt - more to bear in mind.... -

Good point stants - stupid law change I forgot about that. Think I've probably played my hand with the £2,200 now but will see what the history is like and how many receipts etc it has. Do you have much experience cash buying used cars? Other than my first golf (£150 bargain!) I've always had something to part ex so people tend not to move on the asking price but give me a 'good' price for my part ex. Any idea of what sort of money can you normally get off asking? The prodrive bug is from a dealer and is priced at £3990 but tbh i'd rather pay 3,300-3,500 but dunno if that is an absurd offer. Bit of a noob question I know! -

Lol I've been thinking about an Xbox 1 but I suspect it might take over a significant amount of my spare time Matt - can you by any chance remember the details of the wagon you found? Sounds like it would be a useful comparator. I emailed the guy yesterday to find out (before I drive up there) whether he would consider an offer of 2200 given it needs a new cambelt (assume 300-350 quid). If he's not interested 2800 seems a bit steep from what you have said and I don't really want to go all the way there to take it out and find out he wont budge on the price -

Thas interesting stants - I kinda thought the STI would have been cheaper as I thought it would have needed less modding to make 350 ponies compared to a UK 2000. Matt - a blob WRX for 3k? what sort of miles/owners/hist? you seen any for sale online at the mo? Cheers all -

Thanks snoop, i've emailed the private owner (although given that he is the 8th he may not have a complete picture) and will see what the garage tells me tomorrow when they get back to me with the history -

No worries snoop, i appreciate it. Tbh i've done a fair bit of reading up on sites etc but figured ultimately it was best just to chat to you guys with a bit of actual experience so its good to hear all this stuff. I'm kinda expecting that oil changes will be documented but if its been done by someone who knows what theres doing i spose there's no real way of telling how often the oil has been done. Buyers market for WRX then matt? You mentioned 2.5k sounded about right for a std bug wagon n i reckoned (from what i've seen online recently) that 3.9k is probably a reasonably good deal on a low milage WRX prodrive but not so cheap as to be suspect. What u reckon? -

Noobaru88 replied to Noobaru88's topic in New Members Introductions
Cheers matt - i think its more the standard 2l STI where people say the WRX PPP has more torque Haha indeed Snoop, thas a potentially a bit on the sexist side but i take your point. I'm not saying i believe it, the bit in the speech marks is just a copy and paste out of the email i got off the dealer. Dunno how often the oil has been changed but guess it will become pretty obvious once i get to see the service history -

Ah kl, well they look good all the same. This may sound like a daft question but does anyone have any idea how the acceleration/power in a hawk STI would compare to a bug WRX prodrive? Parkers puts the hawk at 276bhp and 0-60 in 5.2. From what i can find out its 245 - 265 for the PPP and 0-60 of around 5 which sounds pretty good to me, i also hear it has better low down torque than the equivalent STI. Turns out the dealer PPP i am lookin at comes with a 15m warranty too... is becoming more n more tempting -
