At risk of repeating myself and filling this thread with "thank you" posts, thank you! I'm pleased to be responsible for keeping/restoring a classic to a good condition too.

Thanks Savage, that's helpful. I'll be getting a hand from my mechanic, rather than diving completely on my own, but the more I can do, the better. He's also more familiar with VW's than Japanese imports, but he will probably be experienced with it anyway. Were you not concerned with the make and model/part number of the actual coilpacks that you got from MB Developments then? You just went with them? From your post it sounds like newage separate coil packs are all much of a muchness and I don't need to worry too much about specifics? Sorry for all of the questions and being a total noob, I appreciate all of your input so much! I've got the rust and discs to sort out at the moment anyway, so it'll be a while before I go for the pack, so I've time to keep reading up about it and finding the right ones. Thanks again.

Amazing thread you got there Savage! I had a pretty decent read through of everything, although unfortunately there was plenty of detailed engine stuff that I simply didn't understand! How could I be sure that one will fit or is it a fairly standard thing? This seems a good thread once I've actually got the pack, but not much of a buyers guide! http://www.jamessimpson.co.uk/classic-impreza-new-age-coil-pack-conversion/

Superb, thank you very much indeed! I shall have a good pore over it :)

Thanks, I've had a good look trying to find your build thread, but even clicking on your profile etc. I haven't managed to, could I have a link please? If it's only £80 and 2 hours of time, I'll be doing that for sure.

Thanks again, that's really helpful. Which NGK's did you fit? Would you imagine that they would be the best bet for me too? I know the car had a dump valve issue for a while, so that may have possibly added to the death of the current plugs. I'll consider a newage coilpack conversion then, I'll see how my mechanic feels about it as by looking on Google, it's a fairly involved job! Going to have a look for your build thread now, cheers!

Thanks very much indeed Savage! When I read about the possible one pot I did think about maybe going for an upgrade, especially as a novice driving a fast car and wanting to do some track days etc. If I decide not to go for an upgrade, having just been stung for the rust and still with a misfire under heavy acceleration at 5krpm to sort out, I might not fancy it, I'll have to have a good look at the ones on there so I know what to replace them with. No images of your V1 to view? I'm interested to have a look! Where abouts in East Anglia are you? Both my grandparents live near Sudbury and my cousins live in Bury st Edmunds. I'll probably be heading down that way at some point this year.

Hi all, I hope you've all had good weekends driving your Scooby's about. I've had some slightly hard to take news this weekend from my car bloke/mechanic. My bubbling rear panel on the recently purchased turned out to be far more than that, and it's rotten right into the arches. He reckons I'm looking at about 30 hours work just on that. Still, it's going to be done as I may only have had this car a few weeks but I'm already in love. Besides, at the amount I'm paying him, I'm only adding value to the car. It turns out I also need rear discs and pads, which is the main reason for my post. Despite extensive Googling, I cannot find reliable information on what size discs I need. I don't want to order them before I'm sure. I've found some pages like this: http://www.subaru4you.co.uk/brakes/subaruselector.shtml If anyone could point me in the right direction, I'd be really really grateful.

Thanks for your help. I believe it's early 96 as that's what the import paperwork says: Car first registered 1996/3 I don't know where the turbo entry is, I'll add a picture. Can you tell anything from that? http://uk.subaruownersclub.com/forums/gallery/image/1263-imag0319/ Apparently it does have a TD05. Just found out I need rear discs and pads but struggling to find any that I can be sure will fit!

Not sure where the turbo entry is, and car is being worked on so cannot check, but I wouldn't be surprised if it had been changed as it has had a little bit of work done. As far as Wikipedia has told me, I think the v2's were straight off the production line but I might be remembering that wrong.

Hmm, maybe I'll have to check my higher spoiler to see if it's genuine. I wonder how I'd tell. I am not 100% sure if mine is a V1 or V2 although it was sold as a V2. Actually, I've just had a look at catherineandken.co.uk and I can now see that it is the V2 STI but unlike the standard V2 STI mine actually has the special edition 555 engine in it, although it doesn't have the option kit of the 555. Also, the power rating is the same so I'm not sure what the difference really is. http://i.ebayimg.com/00/s/MTYwMFgxMjAw/z/oXgAAOSwv0tU4QPj/$_57.JPG http://catherineandken.co.uk/sti/wrx.html I can accept that mine will have the odd ding, but I'd really like to get all the rust off and the paintwork as sweet as I can (on a budget) for a 19yr old car!

Thanks :) Yes, it is. My mate recently called it 20 shades of white, hehe. It came with a second boot and spoiler that you see in the picture. I also have the original boot and spoiler in the correct white. Then it has had a dodgy correction and incorrect white spray on the rear arches. It is currently having a paint overhaul and proper rust removal job. Then the skirts are a different shade too, as is rear bumper I think. Either way, I am getting it sorted. Kinda tempted to put the original spoiler on for a bit at some point, but I've barely driven it yet, and I really love the higher one.

Thanks guys :) Can't believe I forgot to mention my other Subaru. Good ole 1998 Justy 1.3 GX. Just don't call her Swift! ;) Subaru's seem to run in the family a little bit, ever since my dad bought his first Legacy that he got converted to LPG, they have stuck. He then went for an Impreza turbo from the mid nineties, and eventually on to what he has now, a 2009 WRX-S wagon. His late father had a Forester, which has been passed on to his mother, and I've ended up with her trusty Justy.

Compared to most Impreza owners I'd have to say I don't know a great deal about cars, but I'm interested and willing to learn. I joined this forum for advice as much as anything else, as finding specific information can be tough, despite the powers of Google.
