  1. Hi does anyone know where to get a decent stage 1 rom/map for a 2004 forester 2.5XT? I don't want to go crazy, and I'm not doing any hardware upgrades; I just want a teeny bit more low end power.
  2. Hello all. I'm sure this has been asked a thousand times before, but I can't find a thread based on what I'm trying to do. The Satnav is pretty much Useless in my2004 Forester 2.5XT; but in my opinion is in a far better location than the Head unit. With that in mind, I'm only looking to do the following: replace existing Satnav screen with a Double DIn HU that will do music, handsfree, bluetooth streaming and satnav all in one and have it plugging in to the original HU power and speaker looms. replace existing head unit with a storage bucket replace speakers all round (there's a funny oval speaker in the left rear quarter as well as the rear door speakers and front door and tweaters. I want to replace the lot). My questions: would the loom converter needed to hook an aftermarket ISO Head Unit allow me to route the loom down from the satnav location to the existing wires? any recommendations on a Head Unit to do all of the above? (second hand not a problem and don't want to spend more than £200 really) are there any double din storage buckets that would look good with the titanium colour of the Forester dash? any recommendations on speakers? (budget around £200 tops all in)
  3. Ah good. I'll stick with them then as the missus drives the car too. Don't want to leave her with a bone shaker :D
  4. Thanks. I'll let 'em know. Are the Springcoils MUCH better, I've already ordered the KYB's?
  5. Hey Mr B. I ordered the bits on your link; the little rubber protection kit is coming up as being for an SG5 model, not an SG9. Just double checking that it's the right part when converting back to standard shocks from self-levelling?
  6. I just can't figure how to get the existing key out; looks like its molded in. Where abouts does the transponder sit? Is it in the metal key itself?
  7. Ye I think I'll try and get a standard dash glovebox compartment and replace it. How easy are they to get out? I read somewhere that you have to take the facia of the centre consol off too.
  8. I guess another option would be to hacksaw the blade off and just use it as a remote fob alongside a freshly cut key/transponder. Would the two transponders then cause technological terror on the car or would it just recognise the one transponder and ignore the other?
  9. Hi I can't stand the splat nav in my2004 Forester 2.5XT grey/black interior. Does anyone have a standard cubby hole thing they want to sell so I can remove the day nav?
  10. I've got hold of a spare key and fob for my2004 Forester 2.5 XT with the 1 button Sigma factory alarm. I thought I'd be able to take it apart and put in a fresh blade to be cut for my car, but I can't figure out how! Any help would be welcomed; I've programmed the fob to the car. Image below of the key:
  11. I like the sound of that, does an ipad Mini or apple carplay thingy fit in there too?
  12. Hmm, yeah hadn't though about the Poly thing. I was intending to replace the ARB bushes with poly as it looks like people experience the standard bushes perishing quite regularly?
  13. Yeah that's the thing; I'll be taking out self levelling and putting in standard shocks. Hmm. I guess if they're still technically OEM it should be ok.
  14. Thanks for this, yeah I best check those tyre pressures before forking out on shocks and springs. I'm pretty sure the rear shocks have had it though, car rocks and dives quite a bit on acceleration and braking, and the rear sits ever-so-slightly lower than the front.
  15. It looks a little low, not massively lower at the back. But I'm not sure how these cars sit normally, are they slightly nose down? I'd say it's very slightly nose up. Only very slightly though. Plastic droplinks???? No wonder it feels like mush lol. I think my Sway bar bushes may also be on the way out.
  16. It's got the little canister, so I assume it's got self levelling. The car feels very woolly on the suspension. I know I'm coming from a BMW M-SPort and a Volvo 850R on Eibach into this, but it doesn't fill me with confidence at speed or in corners. Are those Pedders kits good and does that class as a modification to the vehicle in terms of Insurance?
  17. Good evening. Does anyone know if the suspension on the rear of a Forester 2.5XT is Self Levelling as standard? Or if not, how can you tell? and if it is, can you quite easily swap out the shocks for normal ones or are the springs and mounts different too?
  18. Many thanks Mr B. It was indeed the bonnet switch. Possibly the easiest fix ever: the switch was mounted correctly, but the soft metal bracket had bent backwards a little, pulled it forward again and hey presto!
  19. Is there any way to disable all the pin-switches on the alarm? I couldn't see anything obvious in that doc; only for the ultrasonics. I can see that pressing 0 will deactivate the faulty one for one cycle; I wonder if there's a way to disable it until further notice
  20. Thanks, I'm just a little unclear as to which ones will fit a my2004; other than obviously 2003-2005 models.
  21. Many thanks, Yes that bonnet may very well be the culprit. Recent work (by Subaru) includes: Sump gasket, Rocker cover gaskets, fuel pump gasket, which I imagine they would have needed to take out a few parts in the engine bay. Also, this boot problem you mention, the boot appears to be closed, the light goes out, are there any other tell-tale signs of a poorly closed bootlid?
  22. oooh the fun has already started. When I arm the alarm, the car beeps continuously for about 10-15 seconds then the alarm goes off. Any ideas? The light on the steering column generally seems to stay constant illuminated rather than any fancy flashing. I've checked all doors and bonnet are closed, I'm not sure where the bonnet switch is. It's got the factory Cat 1 Alarm, any hints or tips on this?
  23. Picking up the 2.5 tonight. It's missing a cargo cover. Does anyone know which cargo covers fit a 2004 forester 2.5XT? Do the mk1s fit?
  24. Yes I know what you mean. The receipts all seem to add up at least and kind of match the story. I spoke with the local Subaru dealer who'd had the car in for the last service too and they didn't have any advisories or bad notes against the car.
  25. I've found a nice low mileage 2.5 XT that I'm going to look at this morn. Thanks for the advice guys; this one's a 2004 with 61k on it. I spoke with the Subaru garage who carried out the 60k service in March. It's had pretty much all the gaskets replaced (including head gasket), belts, water pump etc. Sounds like it could be a good one; dealer knew the previous owner, says the car is immaculate inside and out. But then I guess he would say that.
