I know this has probably been covered loads before and probably a sticky somewhere but I couldnt find it.

I just bought my 2001 impreza wrx saloon and one of the front calipers
is sticking. So I am planning to free up the caliper and change the pads
at the same time all going well.

So is this a common issue the sticky caliper and is there an easy fix?
Also are pagid pads any good from ECP? Just need to know which ones to
buy?

Hello, yes it's a common problem, however they tend to keep sticking until you either refurbished them or buy a reconditioned pair, many people change the pistons for stainless items so they don't corrode, there's a member here that does them for a reasonable price. Pagid pads are good, are you planning on putting any more power into the car ? If so I'd look at upgrading the pads now so your not wasting money in six months time when you decide to upgrade again

As said above unfortunately mate I currently have a set of refurbished ones to put on my car for the same reason. I'd not waste to much time with good pads if you know about a sticky piston it's just a matter of time before it comes back, and if it's really bad it will just scrub one side off more than the other making them useless :( when you do get round to sorting the calipers out. I've freed mine up a few times though they can last days or months but will always jam up eventually :( 

Ive just bought the car and until I have used it I really don't want to start spending money until I know it's a keeper!

What is the cost of the refurb?

Can I not just free it temporarily until I've used the car for a few weeks then once happy il start spending?

You can free it mate as I said it could last a few months but will need to work it to get it moving again. 

I'd have to ask Cusco but think it was £150 for the pair + £40 deposit and what ever postage was think it was about £15 But then you have to send your old ones back to him and he will give you the £40 back once he's received your old calipers.

I think this is the best option temporarily as I need to know the car is a keeper then I will do the full refurb/exchange.

 

Is there a simple brembo upgrade from another scooby that will fir that does not suffer from the same issue?

Yeah you can swap well upgrade to the Brembos easy enough does mean disc's and pads need to be changed and to make sure the alloy doesn't catch. But even Brembos can suffer with sticky pistons but doesn't happen as much . These are mine still in the box I will get round to fitting them :D

 

 

I'm pretty sure as long as you have a good car it will be a keeper not met many that haven't enjoyed them, but everyone is different I guess :)

I know he fit's better pistons to reduce them sticking so all be well I should be good with these for another 10 years or more

   just doing these for my TYPE R Winter project before   light weight race calipers

  and after photos.   

 

 

 

 and yes i do a 4 pot  caliper with st/st pistons and bolts & washers going to a customer in Cyprus soon. 

 

 all exchange calipers carry a surcharge of £40 returned on the return of your old units in serviceable condition.

 

 all calipers sets sent using parcel monkey next day insured delivery average cost approx £13 ish.

 

  

Haha well I went out to do it but by hell it was cold   and didn't fancy laying on the frozen floor doing them :D but I need to get them done sooner than later :) So will have a look tomorrow I'd use the garage with the log burner but have a massive lawn mower the way :( don't want to melt it as it's not mine.
