andrewturner150 Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Hi allMy 96 impreza wrx sti had a carbon fibre hood fitted by a previous owner. Now it seems as though the lacquer coating is blistering and peeling off. Does carbon fibre need a lacquer coating? How can I get it re-lacquered? I live in a very hot and sunny climate? perhaps some clear spray paint will do the trick?any help would be appreciated and i've attached a photo so you can see he damage. p.s ignore the L plates my girlfriend was driving that day.
quit Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 carbon is very tricky mate, That looks like its taken the top off totally, has it affected the weave? is it only the scoop affected?
andrewturner150 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 its on the scoop and a little on the right hand side of the hood. the weave is fine. it's just sun blistering i think....
quit Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 it happens really easy on carbon mate, i got carbon on my scoob and it lifts really easy! had a carbon bonnet on my old vectra did that ! Only real way doing it is rub it down and relaquer wtihout damaging the weave
andrewturner150 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 how would i even go about doing that?this is my first car so i'm a little new to some of these things.
quit Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 Well with great difficulty is the only answer! get some fine wet and dry paper and gently try sand the edges down then apply a new coat of laquer or 4 till it matches in
andrewturner150 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 right I have another small problem.I live on a tiny island called St. Helena. Its's a UK overseas territory but the few shops that are here don't import any good lacquer (certainly nothing that I could use when guitar building) so would clear spray paint do the trick? or will I have to import something? i really would prefer to do a job that would last....
quit Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 isnt that off the coast of angola? yeah i would import some laquer mate
andrewturner150 Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 It's slap bang in the middle of the south atlanticok i will import some.
