Boost controller advice

Can someone recommend a good boost controller, as I think I am suffering from boost creep... Although the cars had fuel pump, exhaust and a remap of the standard ecu ! Now it's not driven hard regularly but if I properly plant my right foot the boost gauge spins to just shy of 1.5 bar of boost and will keep climbing if I don't let off the throttle ...it's gone as high as 2 bar once...so I let off the power ...don't get me wrong, I love the power but as I don't have the knowledge or skills to build an engine I don't would very much rather look after the one I have !!!

Thanks

Wow 2 bar ! You not even getting any fuel cut from the ecu ?

Any idea who mapped it in the 1st place ? I'd look at getting it on the rollers and a possible tweak to the map as boost controllers need to be mapped in anyway for them to be efficient. Has the car had any internal engine mods ?

No no internals... And no fuel cut...Just a Walboro 255 fuel pump tsl thunder cat decat pipe and a prodrive rear section ... Was mapped by Richard at fbtuning I believe, although the previous owner said something about launch control ( previously mentioned in a separate thread ) according to the receipt was a remap of the standard ecu.

The only reason it stayed below 2 bar was because I saw it and thought oh f**k that's too much and lifted my foot [emoji15]

Having said that Richard & fbtuning come highly recommended as a scooby specialist nearest me so I will have have to mention the boost when I get it over to him for its 60k service in a week or two

oh she is quick, definately in the 300+ club  ...Left a stunned ninja rider off a roundabout the other day and got a big thumbs up when he caught me at the next one lol

I just dont want her going bang prematurely so i rarely feel the need to fully plant my foot

If it was me and I owned your car I would be very tempted to go to a rolling road not for a power run but to get your fueling checked to be on the safe side. You have a very nice car for it to go bang

all i will admit to is i was in 6th when the boost gauge hit 2 bar with my foot flat and around 4.5k rpm

I don't have 6th gear lol and if I try putting anything over 340bhp in my gearbox it wont last long

that is the plan, just getting the service stuff out of the way and a bit of a tidy up for japfest ( stonechips and the like really all minor ) and like i said i really dont drive her hard, just a few beans every now & again for the smile factor ;)

have you checked for split pipes or split plastic bits?

mine started feeling faster and I looked at the boost gauge and it was 1.6 bar, I backed straight off. I found a plastic Y had cracked, I replaced it and it was fine

Don't put your foot down or you could melt your pistons

the newage's have the launch feature on the standard ecu, when the car is sat still it will only rev to 5k rpm

that i was not aware of, thanks for the heads up regarding the launch!!

funny you should mention boost/vacuum pipes ...i have just ordered a new set..in bright pink from boostjunkies.co.uk so will see what its like once they're replaced :)

think i will still be on the lookout for a boost controller and hoping to pick up a good deal from japfest unless there's a special from rhdjapan

you shouldn't need a boost controller, if you are still having issues with the new pipes fitted (make sure you refit the boost pill) get it on a rolling road and find the problem, a boost controller will just mask over the existing problem

before I had my last car mapped I fitted a manual boost controller (dawes device) for a bit more punch. I set it up on a rolling road day so that I knew everything was safe. I raised boost by 0.2 bar, I only gained 1bhp on top end, but 20 bhp and 30 lb torque through the midrange :D

i think your right, cant wait for my box of bits to turn up ... i get like a kid at christmas!!

will see what effect the new pipes have if any and go from there, also as mentioned she is approaching a 60k service so will be going back to Rich at fbtuning shortly, will be cheeky and see if he will take a look at the map as he remapped it in the first place although that was a couple of years ago
