tom30 Posted December 7, 2015 Posted December 7, 2015 Hi, I have the warning lights on and this lead to a trip to garage. I Thought that it was the handbrake but it was glow plug issue. Now I have three of the four replaced but as the mechanic was about to remove the fourth it was not for moving. It will have to be taken out at some stage but has anyone else had this problem and how did it be solved. I have also now found a person who can remove it so that it wont require the engine to be taken apart and removed etc.
tom30 Posted January 15, 2016 Author Posted January 15, 2016 Update to the above hope to get the fourth glow plug replaced within the next few weeks. Did a trial run for striping everything out so that the plug can be removed. All you need is about 1 hour 10mm and 12 spanner and screwdriver and good light. Here is pics to show were glow plugs are. This is the driver's side of the car. Air box and ecu need to come out
tom30 Posted January 28, 2016 Author Posted January 28, 2016 Well the glow plug is now out and the new one in. Also had to replace the 50 amp fuse as it was blown. Once that all done reconnected Battery let sit for 10 minutes and all back to normal again. Glad to get that done. Just a quick question to throw out there would you consider replacing them again at say 120k just to keep things right or just leave alone.

Hi, could you direct me to where I can find the glow plug relay/fuse as I can't seem to find it. I have replaced my glow plugs but still need to do relay. Any help would be great thanks. Gareth
tom30 Posted April 16, 2019 Author Posted April 16, 2019 Hi The 50 amp Fuse is located in the engine compartment. It is within the engine bay fuse box. It should be a purple colour. Hope that helps.
ChrisCelovic Posted November 18, 2020 Posted November 18, 2020 How did you remove the 4th stuck plug?
tom30 Posted November 18, 2020 Author Posted November 18, 2020 Hi, I had to get a specialist to remove it as it had seized in. The guy was able to remove it and redo the threads and install the new one. I did the striping out to give access to it which was on the Battery side so all that has to come out to get access to it. If you can talk to anyone who can remove seized injectors etc they might be able to do it. Also as noted above you may need to replace the blown 50Amp fuse in the engine bay. Once done never had issue with them since.
Tomas Posted September 13, 2023 Posted September 13, 2023 I have Electronic parking brake warning light illuminated along with the cruise control light flashing and engine management light on. Went to garage and they say it is showing up as Glow Relay Circuit Low. Is this the same as your problem tom30? I don't have any parking brake problem, the car starts and drives fine at the moment. Should I consider changing the glow plugs? Anyone with a suggestion?
tarambuka3500 Posted December 31, 2023 Posted December 31, 2023 dealt with the same set of issues last summer; luckily though they were able to remove all the glowplugs, albeit it was not easy and took them few cans of carbon-deposit-removal spray and patience. the guy told me that with diesel subarus its highly recommended to replace the plugs each ~100,000 - 120,000km tops, as they become almost impossible to remove as the mileage grows. too much sticky carbon deposit builds up on the inside, and the plugs are very thin/fragile so if you just force it, they break.
