Hey guys, I've just bought a second car...an Impreza 2000 turbo.

Ive been advised that as it is my second car, I can't use my existing ncd as this is used on my daily drive.

So i will need to start afresh with this new toy, do you recommend any companies in particular for this car, as its 16 years old would it be classed as a classic yet? Should I use a classic insurance companies?

thanks all, I am sure I will have more questions at some point.

cheers J.

Put it on a limited mileage policy with a specialist should bring it down nicely. Whilst your ncb cannot be used on 2 vehicles it can be taken into account. I found the biggest factor in my insurance was I had only just bought the car, not many insurers like new owners of these sort of vehicles, particularly if you haven't had similar vehicles recently

Hang on, I'm just thinking out loud here, and I might be wrong, as I only have been dealing with UK insurance for 2 years. single car. But that NCB thingy, I thought it is the proof that you are driving carefully and have no claims towards your insurance. I never thought that it is a piece of paper with a number on it which only applies to single car? So logically thinking if I have 10 year no claim bonus, which means I was lucky enough careful enough not to have an accident for 10 years and did not bother insurance company with anything, that this 10 years of my careful driving will go to waste if I decide to get a second car? So does that mean that with second car I am suddenly considered as a liability on the road in a same way as young drivers being considered? With same flawed logic(in my opinion) that NCB should be invalidated if I sold my only car with which I spent 10 years without the claim.

It applies to one policy so you can't have more than one car on standard policy, you'd have to look at somewhere like admiral, but they wouldn't insure a subaru last time I checked, same with direct line as mine has an exhaust that's not standard they won't touch it ??

admiral does insure subaru ;) I was quoted with all their sister companies and themselves as well ;)

Mines now on a multicar policy with admiral, mods declared, along with my Toyota Avensis. Works out at 640 for both for the year. The cheapest quote for the Impreza I got was 462 with my ncb, and most companies wanted in excess of 600 for the Avensis as I had no ncb on it!
