Ian123 Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Hi guy... Recently my 2002 wrx has started to smoke not too much when idling but if I give it abit of a boost I down the road it seems to smoke much more... Is there a quick easy way of finding out if it's the turbo or not?? Is there any thing I can buy to help the smoking issue also is there a better grad oil to help this... Cheers guys
Buggyeye Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 That's oil being burnt. Is it smoking constantly or only occasionally?
Ian123 Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 Mostly after I've accelerated then come to a stop there seems to be smoke coming past the car etc it's never loads unless I boot the car hard
Buggyeye Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 Sounds like the turbo sills. Is there loads of oil in the intercooler? Also worth checking the turbo inlet as well. 1
Ian123 Posted May 10, 2016 Author Posted May 10, 2016 What's easiest way to check turbo oil sills? If I take the intercooler off and find oil is that the turbo then?
Buggyeye Posted May 10, 2016 Posted May 10, 2016 There is usually a little oil in there anyway but just look for excessive amounts of it in small puddles or something. Best way to check is look in the intake hose going to the turbo for oil. I heard somewhere that it can also affect boost pressure but not sure on that.
