Lower control arm failure - looking for new ones

Hi everyone,

New to the club, but have owned a 2006 Forester XT for just over a year.

I've just had a pretty bad failure of the lower control arm and the car is now sat in a garage waiting for parts. Only issue is, the garage says they can't source any relevant parts from their suppliers and suggested sourcing some myself.

I thought it would be super easy, but i'm having a lot of trouble finding what looks like compatible parts. I've found information suggesting that parts from the whole SG series will fit (i'm just concerned about pre-facelift), which is great, but i'm planning on keeping the car for a while so i don't want the same failure again using similar parts.

Ideally, i'd like to get a set of alloy arms from a Forester STi, but i can't seem to find any. Supposedly the alloy arms from the same Impreza era will fit, but how compatible are they? Will i need different bushes or other connecting parts? Which ones? Can i just shove them straight on and get on with driving?

If anyone has any advice, ideally with some links to buy something i'd really appreciate it!

you normally would split BJ at arm so prety normal for it come without.

You will HAve BJ's on car which may be good enough reuse (inverted design like subaru use see's BJ's can last well over 130K .
If need replacing then Moog and 555Japan about the best from my experience and not expensive over the monkey metal crap in pattern part market these days .

  • 3 weeks later...

Hey everyone,

Thought I'd update this in case anyone else has the same or similar query after googling.

The control arms that Mr B posted fit perfectly (thanks again for the link) - for those who find the link doesn't work, they were Alloy control arms from an '05 Impreza blob eye.

I purchased some 555-Japan Ball Joint for peace of mind and gave these over to the mechanic who was taking care of the car.

Turns out that i also had to replace the Link Rods on both sides as these had seized.

After all of that (and a couple of other unrelated changes), the car definitely feels more balanced around corners - might just be because i didn't drive it for a few weeks though!

Big thanks to Mr B again for the help. Much appreciated.
