Check Engine light on 2002 model

Hi...my "check engine" light comes on intermittently and I have had it to the mechanic on a number of occasions including having the cylinders cleaned but it still comes on every time I drive it. It seems to become sluggish a bit when the light is on. Any ideas of a possible cause? Thanks Geoff.

There should be stored fault codes. You need to get those read.
