TCV - Thermo Control Valve alert in modern Subarus

Featured Replies

Just when you thought the head gasket issues and CVT failures had been sorted, along comes another Subaru F-up.

Seems like there is another class-action going on in the US too regarding this issue.

Don't worry though, it's not effecting the turbo engines only the naturally aspirated.  How! Hang on...!

Nice to see Subaru USA is making their customers whole.  No word from Subaru UK that I'm aware of.

Just had a “quote” for replacing thermo control valve in Outback - £1145 & labour (+4hours) & VAT!!! Car only 5yrs old with 76k miles. This would be covered by extended warranty in the US but no such joy in UK. Been in touch with Subaru Uk who have suggested our local Subaru dealer could submit a case to be considered as a gesture of good will but dealer says, “the guy he spoke to at Subaru reckons It’s unlikely to be supported” - in other words he can’t be bothered with the hassle!! In the meantime I can’t drive my car further than a few miles. Any suggestions?

I would keep pushing for it and especially if there is any hint of safety related issues resulting from the defective component

Don't hold your breath. I've found Subaru UK (the IM Group) to be next to useless, very unhelpful, when it comes to customer care and returning messages.

To update, I’ve now raised this as a safety concern with DVSA, citing the known fault and extended warranty in the US. If any other Subaru owner (in the UK) experiences something similar, perhaps by doing the same we can increase the pressure for the DVSA to take action.
