  1. Thanks for the replies guys. Was an ambitious question but I've gone off the diesel after learning about all the issues it can have. Shame as it's a great engine when it's working well. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  2. Well... I've owned a few Volvos also! My wife loved hers too. But we moved on and I've considered getting another one (diesel only) but long for another legacy/outback. Another side track Mr B. Given the wonderful interchangeability of Subaru drive trains, can a 5eat be fitted to a 4eat car? Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  3. Thanks folks, nice to meet you. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  4. Doing about 25000 otherwise I'd be happy with a 2.5i. but anxious about the diesel failing now. Are there any tell tale signs of concern when testing it? This one hadn't run for a week and was ice cold but had a nasty rattly knock when started until it warmed up. Only 1 instance, not sure if the dmf might sound similar to a pinking diesel but I associated it with old rattly diesel van sounds... Sorry, thread is off piste... 5. Don't say that, I'm about to go pick one up tomorrow. Should I steer clear of the diesels? I thought euro5 & 6 engines were ok now. Are they not? Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  6. Thanks. Do you mean 2009 & 2010 years? That's a bit of a worry. Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk
  7. Hi Mr B Thanks for the advice. Are these engines unsuited to remapping then as that's more power of course. My interpretation was it's the low speed shock that's worse and good power delivery (smooth) not too high in the revs is ok. I was considering an economy remap from Celtic tuning. 8. Hello forum. I'm looking at a diesel legacy with tired clutch and finding out the woes and costs of doing the job. I want to ask if anybody has experience with replacing the dual mass flywheel with a solid one on the early diesels' 5 speed gearbox and any advice regarding the work. Thanks in advance Tyler Sent from my Moto G (5) Plus using Tapatalk

  10. Hello forum I'm new so forgive some obvious questions. I've owned a number of Scoobies but not worked on any really. I am looking for a BP Legacy/Outback diesel but seeing hairy stories of diesel failure, weak clutches and short-lived 5-speed boxes. So I'm considering buying a dead engine'd car and building a hybrid. I would like to ask what anybody knows about the following: Fitting a Euro5 or 6 engine to the Euro4 BP Legacy. I understand the Euro5 engine is a direct swap using the original Euro4 management system and hardware, is the Euro6 the same? Fitting a 5EAT transmission from the H6 to the Boxer diesel, I understand Subaru wisely standardised all its engine patterns, block designs and transmissions so they are all interchangeable, am I mistaken? I also haven't done the math but the ratios probably wont be ideal as stock, but the parts are interchangeable so I should be able to change final & Diff ratios to suit the diesel. Are there issues running an auto box ECU with a manual (diesel) ECU or does anybody have experience swapping an auto into a car (usually the other way round...). Any other advice to this end? Yes, I want a BP Outback, not later, not a Forester, not LPG (business case isn't there unless this proves cost prohibitive...) Thank you in advance. Tyler
  11. Hello forum I've never done this before but felt I would here. I've just joined this forum as I'm looking for a community of support based in the UK. I've owned multiple cars in the past, most recently 2 BP Legacies both pre & facelift 3.0 H6 models, original and Spec.B respectively. I moved away when looking for a hybrid commuter and flirting with the dark side in a Golf GTE for a year but the German had no soul and I couldn't spend a significant portion of my life in its company... I've always been a Jap cars guy, primarily Toyota in younger years thanks to parental influence but my favourites have always been Subaru's models. Unfortunately as a young man owning one was highly frowned on by insurers so I never ventured there but since growing up (on paper, a number of years ago) I've been able to rekindle that love. I regret ever selling even the first H6 Legacy and have been skirting around the prospect of buying another BP Legacy/Outback for over a year now. So I'm looking actively and learning quickly of the short-comings of the original Boxer Diesels also, my preferred choice for the amount of miles I travel, hence joining ot seek advice from the forum. On a personal note, I'm an Engineer, a Consultant in Aerospace and a family man. I have 3 pooches and am outnumbered 4-1 by my girls so they don't leave an excess of time for spannering or petrol head entertainment... But it doesn't stop me outright. Work/Life also doesn't leave me much other time to tinker with cars but I take any opportunity I can get. So I just wanted to say hi and hello and I look forward to joining the community.
