  1. On a side note cars due a service again so going back to main dealer at Tweedmouth service station see how it works out.
  2. Hi all having had cvt fluid changed earlier in the year just to report all is well no issues at all with car now showin 82000 miles. Jake
  3. I had my CVT service done last week by Tweedmouth service station ( Subaru main dealer) , they also removed sump and replaced the filter mesh screen (Which does break down as has nylon mesh screens that start to deteriorate with time) (they also remove the sump magnet and clean that as well as cleaning the sump pan of any debris ), as a result of removing this they get more CVT fluid out than a simple drain plug change. Then once back together do a fluid change using Subaru green fluid. The whole job was done for the same price that a S non franchised Subaru specialist quoted me for just a fluid change Ie not the filter screen or sump clean), and was cheaper than a non Subaru specialist auto transmission centre quoted me again for just a fluid change. The Customer service is excellent at Tweedmouth Service station Berwick upon Tweed. . I had been quoted £600 but the job came in at £425. That said i was getting some warranty work carried out so the price might have been slightly offset by that work. Jake

  5. I’m new to the Club although made a few comments on CVT servicing. I’ve bought a 2017 Outback, 1 local owner full history, 66000 miles, i it bought from Tweedmouth garages my main local Subaru garage, it’s approved Subaru proven car from main dealer, came with full service, inc new discs and pads all round, refurbished wheels, new battery they even changed the PCV valve so seem quite thorough. I’ve fitted a set of four Michelin cross climate 2 so they need scrubbed in a few thousand miles before giving best mpg. The car is very clean and seems to have minimal very light surface corrosion on the underside, I’m going to clean and treat all that and re wax it using Bilt Hamber products, I’m also having the CVT serviced in the next month or so. I’ve just driven to Cornwall last week 490 mile and the car is superb very comfy very easy and has returned 43 mpg on way down and is showing average for the last 600 miles of 37.2. Mpg that’s including 7 days around small Cornish roads. my Volvo D5 V70 I sold was a 2002model with over 190000 miles still going well, I’m hoping this Subaru will do similar milage and last at least another 10 to 15 yrs if looked after. By the way this is a nicer drive than the Volvo. regards Jake1
  6. The reason I’m going through Subaru and not the independent is because of the correct Subaru fluid being used. even though that’s over £200 of the bill, then they change the strainer and clean out the sump area. The independent uses an equivalent fluid which may or may not cause issues according to everything I’ve read on the internet.
  7. I heard back from Tweedmouth Subaru they were very helpful, they say again it’s not a service item but can be done at my request. If they do it though they will remove the oil strainer and replace it, when they do the change - I think they must be following Subaru guidelines on complete fluid replacement who am I to argue. Again they have to buy in the large tin of CVT fluid and once opened can’t be stored for re use ( So im assuming it’s a bit like brake fluid in as much as once opened really it shouldn’t be stored due to the chance of contamination - that’s my interpretation) so it means a lot of wastage that I will end up paying for. The full fluid and strainer change is quite expensive at £600. But for me that’s maybe once every 7 yrs at current usage so I’m going ahead with it.
  8. I've got an outback 2017 model with 67000 miles. , it's been serviced from new by Subaru Alnwick until they finished 4 yrs ago. Since then it's been Tweedmouth service station Berwick upon Tweed. They are a family owned garage that's been about for as long as i can remember. They have always had a good reputation as they are out on a limb and rely on local customers. I've asked them about a CVT service before my car gets more miles on it. They are going to get back to me hopefully today. However Austin auto gearbox services also are willing to do the CVT service for 300+ vat they are based in North Tyneside, near shiremoor. So if Subaru won't it's going there at the end of the month. The guy at Austin's said sealed for life is a myth the oil breaks down gets contaminated, thinner etc starts overheating then you have really big issues. They've been around for 40 yrs or longer i believe them over a bean counter at Subaru HQ.
