  1. Would you believe it. The new bearing was fine. Me and my mate (who owns his own garage) were convinced that the new bearing had failed. However it was the other side that had also gone. Daft thing is, the sound was definitely coming from the other side!
  2. Hi All. On top of sorting the wheel bearing issue out (below thread)........ I have a nice, clean Sport on a W plate which I have upgraded with a leather Turbo trim, bonnet, alloys - thats about it. Issue is, it stands too high. Without spending loads of money on struts or coilers etc. Does anyone know if there would be a pitfall in simply fitting lowering springs from eBay? Thanks, John.
  3. Thanks. It has been suggested that the new bearing has taper roller bearings inside as opposed to the original ball bearings. The new bearing sounds knackered. As for the grinding, possibly I have bent the back plate on refitting. I will let you know the outcome. John.
  4. Hi All. Anyone experienced this? I had what I thought was a noisey NSR bearing and changed it a few weeks ago. I stripped the car myself and had a garage press the new bearing in. On the test drive, the noise hadn't gone away. To my dismay however, there was ALSO a grinding noise now from the same area which seems to go worse when I turn to the right (however small that turn or bend might be). I asked the mechanic who pressed the bearing (a good trusted friend of mine) to drive the car. He was under the impression that I hadn't fitted it initially (although he knew full well that I had). He agreed that the noise we could hear was coming from the NSR and stated that it sounded like the bearing was knackered. He could not account for the grinding and nothing showed up on the four poster ramp. Anyone else had this issue? Car is a Sport with brake shoes as opposed to rear pads. There is plenty of life left in the brakes and I am 100% positive that they are adjusted properly. Thanks, John.
  5. Did you ever sort this? I have just done exactly the same to my Sport with a Prodrive box. I cut the end off the new box, cut the end off the old box and welded my old end into the end of the new box. Dead easy as long as you mark the angles up properly so that they line up. Worked a treat. Afternoon of a job. Thanks, John.
  6. Hi All. Recently I have bought a leather trim from Pommey here on the site and was told that this was the forum to become a member of. I am told that you are the more 'discerning type' and are not the type of people to ridicule and judge, just because I own an immaculate Sport! Thank you! I look forward to reading and posting many threads to come! Just a little about myself. I was a Subaru Technician in the early nineties, just as the Impreza Turbo was launched. I always thought that it was a fantastic car and always hoped that one day I would own one. Now that I am in a position to buy a nice Turbo Classic, it seems all the decent ones have gone and only the rough, modified or thrashed cars are still out there. Shame really. Maybe one day I will find one. :D John.
