Slightly erratic idle
I shall have a go next week...too busy at the mo. Incidentally, does anyone know which bulds I need. May as well replace them all as I am at it

Thanks again matey. Yes, my cynical head did ask the question ' I wonder if the garage removed the bulb to conceal a fault? ' I will ask him on Wednesday when I see him, I read liars pretty well. Anyway. Let's get to the bulbs. As far as I can see the plastic casing holding a few switches is held on by four screws. Unbolt, pull back, undo switches and pull off ( although I do have an aftermarket cobra immobiliser there which I am keen not to disturb) Them another four bolts to remove the instrument cluster. I am guessing the speedo is cable? What happens next I am not sure

Nah...no need to apologise. its fun trying to work it out. Well..wiring isn't easy to access...think the green ones were higher up the loom as I could just them. These are the black ones I connected... do they look like the right ones? Nothing on the dash so I guess the bulb is blown. Slightly erratic idle
Hi The idle on my newly acquired 1996 2.0 Sport has started to idle slightly erratically. Normally it will sit around 700_800 but I noticed yesterday that on a few occasions it sat at 1200. Despite it age the car is low mileage at 36k. Could it be something as simple as a return spring thats a bit dry? Just thinking out loud...I haven't got a clue :-)

wear is common because drivers do not adjust their driving technique to the requirements of a four wheel drive car.
Okey dokey...thanks for all your replies :)

Mmm...I kinda read that new-to-4WD drivers need educating as to proper clutch control/gear changing vs non 4WD cars. Must admit that I haven't got it right yet (getting used to a new car?) and my changes are not always super smooth. Slow and purposeful , is that what is meant?

As quoted from Honest John's review of Series 1 Impreza As I newbie to 4WB I haven't got a scooby what he means, what am I missing? Carl

Anyone in Cardiff/Penarth area fancy holding my hand
...as I want to change the cambelt on my 96 Sport but as a bit of a newbie to car mechanics I am nervous! (but I do want to start to be able to service the car myself as much as possible) I know it sounds a bit lame, the job doesnt look too difficult but I know I'll get in a kerfuffle! Cheers Carl

Newbie with first Subaru
Thanks all. Collected it today. Bit more bodywork damage than I remembered from my first viewing but not complaining. Every mot from the first in 1999 showing an average of 2.5k miles per year. As far as I can tell the cambelt was changed 26k miles ago but that was in 1999! Better have it renewed I guess!

Newbie with first Subaru
Hi there. I have just bought my first Subaru...a 96 Impreza Sport n/t with fully stamped service record, one lady owner (really!) and just 36k documented miles. I have not had a car for a while and didn't really know what to buy but I knew I wanted something other than the norm when this popped up! I am looking to a long trouble free relationship...heres hoping
