Compression test uk turbo 2000
Jammy Johnny replied to Jammy Johnny's topic in Subaru Engines, Exhausts and modifications
I think its best to pull the engine and do a rebuild. I should have done this a couple of years ago but I became unwell and garaged the car. Now I am fighting fit the car is getting sorted properly, It will be a modern classic by the time I have finished it lol. I will probably do the build topic when I have the time because I have loads of photos of the old scoob with all the work I am doing, Its just not a cheap car to work on so It takes a bit of time. I already have the rear bumper off and the bar that is supposed to hold it on is rotten so I need to source out that, then a couple of small repairs to the rear sills and rear arches. Cut out and replace then wax oil. Tidgy do you hear anything wrong with the engine through exhaust ? -

Thats what I did not want to hear. Mind you If the engine has to come out then under bonnet is getting a good clean up and all things painted. Cheers Sandals -
Compression test uk turbo 2000

Took me ages to work out how to upload a video of the sound my engine is making. My kids say its because Im getting old :) But Listen to the engine tone when holding it at 2500 rpm. It does not sound proper to me -
What Is the average cylinder compression results for a Impreza uk turbo 2000 with 100.000 miles ? Cold test on an engine I have is: 1...125 psi 3...115 psi 2...140 psi 4...140 psi They all seem a bit low to me and cylinder 3 looks really low, probably below 8 bar. I did a test a few weeks ago using another tester but it has now been binned because it was giving faulty reading on a few cars.

Well the ECU has no ESL board fitted so that is not the problem. And the ECU I got to replace it will probably have to be coded because I get code 53 for immobiliser when its fitted. The engine is running really rich to the point that it stinks of petrol. I did notice today that while the engine was running rough and back firing at tickover, If you unplug the wiring from cylinder 3 the engine sounds and runs without backfiring So I thought I has found my misfire. Changed the injector with a good cleaned one and it was still the same, backfiring and rough idle but unplug cylincer 3 and runs better. pulling the injector wire off either 1 2 4 pulls the engine way down. I am at my wits end with this thing now. Any ideas are most most welcome. Best wishes, Johnny.

I looked at my Scooby in the garage car park and said, " you are getting fixed on Saturday hail rain or snow" Mind you it was 23C today -
The HT leads are in the correct order. Lovely engine you have there mate :) And I see the cylinder two injector wire are green and yellow. I will have to test the pulses with a test lamp on the injectors to see if they are getting a signal.
-
Cheers for replying savage. I do not use the black wires because I have an adapter for the yellow socket that converts it to OBDII. The ECU is reset and there are no stored codes. I have not checked for an esl board yet, but I will do at the weekend when I get to work on my own car in the garage at my work. The injectors are grey 380cc's and I have replaced all of them. can anyone confirm it the injector wires for cylinder 2 on my age of car are light green and yellow and cylinder 4 are blue and yellow wires This misfire has been on this car since I got it 2 years ago and now that I am not ill, I would like it sorted so the car is drivable. The annoying thing is that I am a mechanic and I diagnose and sort cars for a living, mostly diesels though lol.
-
Well I have not been active for pretty much 2 years due to a bad ilness and the Subaru has just lay there all that time (until a few weekends ago) . I never got around to sorting out the misfire before I was ill. The car is an Impreza 1997 UK Turbo 2000 But now I am fit again, I have been working on the car. I have now fitted (some fitted before ilness) new coilpack, HT leads, Plugs, MAF, Injectors, Timing belt kit, Fuel filter , Had inlet manifold off and resealed. I also did a compression test and all cylinders and showing all close to 150 psi. I still have the misfire at around 1200rpm and the back firing and not as quick as the car should be. The car has a full decat stanless exhaust system and I am unsure it it ever had a daughter board fitted to the ECU. My question is... Will I be able to swap the ECU for a direct replacement for that model and year ? and is it possible for that ECU to cause problems with a misfire in one cylinder and also a rich mixture on the other three ? I have managed to aquire an 8s ecu, but how will that go with my immobiliser fob. Now I know why I was ill lol. Best wishes Johnny

Thanks Jay. I was just wishful thinking on an easy way :). Oh well I suppose I better do it properly then.

Do the Classic UK 2000 turbo wagons accept fuel injector cleaner into the tank without destroying anything. It will be driven normally whilst the cleaner is in B) New full timing belt kit, all pulleys and water pump fitted now along with a new coil pack , leads, plugs and a full service. Number 4 injector flashed up on my obdII machine but I think it was number 2 plug that look as if it was not firing

Where can I get a set or single fuel injector for my 1997 impreza 2000 turbo wagon ? My number 4 cylinder injector is faulty. Please help, I have looked ebay etc but I am unsure what to buy. I know my car cannot be mapped so Its a standard injector I am looking for. I dont mind buying a full set of either new or re-con or second hand working

maf 3 pin

keep me posted please. And its always good for others to find out :)

The adapter from 9 pin obd to 16 pin obdII system I have is from a system called Launch diagnostics (google them) . If you were closer to me then I would do it for you, But I think I am miles away. Anyway the car is back off the road because it has started farting and hesitating at low speeds. A bit like jerking and kangaroo petrol lol. I have fitted new coilpack and new plugs and leads as well as a new panal filter. I fitted a new timing belt and it ran great until I booted the car. I think that the hydraulic tensioner is faulty and allowing the belt to be slack thus allowing the valve timing to be out. It will fit a complete timing belt kit after my holidays in Norfolk ( 11th to 19th July :) ) If that fails to sort it then I will try injector number 4 because the obdII system brought up that when doing the data test with engine running. Im sure a faulty injector would cause this jerkyness low rev driving. Im keeping the exhaust now because I love the sound now lol. The maf sensor is not throwing up any faults. so its timing kit...injector...o2 sensor then take it from there. I so much want this car to run smooth because its nice to drive when not annoying me at low revs
