2.0l front drive shaft compatible with a 2.5l?
Hello all, I suspect my front right driveshaft has an inner CV joint failure (the boot failed a couple of months ago ( I thought I noticed in time) and now there is wobble under acceleration). I have found a replacement shaft but it is for a 2.0l version. Will this fit my model? For clarification my car is a 2007 2.5l outback, the part is from a 2008 legacy. Many thanks for your advice Greg

2007 Outback key button does not work.
Update, I drove from Bournemouth to Nottingham and back last night to collect my spare key (yes as pictured above) and my code. Luckily the spare key worked so I am now back on the road. The first key still doesn't work, does it now need replacing? I will get home before I try anything with the code, but is there any guides on how to use the code and the key? Mr B you mentioned that it is possible to re-program the code, although I'm sure it is simple I would like to read a guide first as the consequences of !Removed! it up I assume will be very steep financially. Many thanks for all your help yesterday. Although there was little I could do, at least I knew that and thanks to you guys I was able to do something about it.

2007 Outback key button does not work.
No problem, when I saw the keypad I thought this would be the case. Usefully my V5 is at home. Do you think this problem will be solved with the correct code? Any idea why for no apparent reason the car will suddenly drop its code?

2007 Outback key button does not work.
Car battery was changed last summer as was the key battery (I changed it because the range was poor and hoped this would improve the range, unfortunatly it just seems that Subaru have a woeful range). When it stopped working today my first option was to re-change the battery in the key just in case, but no change. I have since discovered a key pad in the fuse box area, but don't have the code.

2007 Outback key button does not work.
Hi, I am with family for Easter. The alarm on my Subaru is going off. I can unlock the car with the key, but the button does not work. So my alarm goes off and the immobilser wont let the engine start. When I turn the key ignition lights do turn on. I have recently changed the battery, but changed it again this morning to be safe. As I am away I am desperate to get the car working again. Please help Greg

Two oil questions.
1. Triple QX oil from "ECP" and "car parts for less" is very cheap, £13 for 5l fully syth. Heard it is made by Shell just not paid all the extortionate VAG, MB, volvo, BMW, GM.....etc approval prices. Anyone got an opinion on this oil? At this price may change my oil more often, even a low price oil changed more often is better than a over priced oil changed on time? 2. Should my 2.5l outback have semi of full synth? I thought fully synth was always better. Dont want to open a oil can of worms. And please no "put the best you can afford in" or I swear by castrol/magnatec/helix/etc. I have just spent the last 6 months in Africa and seen some real sheds still racking up the miles. Am i supposed to believe that a guy struggling to put food on his families table is going to spend a month's wages + on oil? These cars are still banging on.

Fault code reader.
Yeah a one off would be cheaper. But if I buy the tool I hope it will save in the long run, if i buy the multi car then its a tool for life. I am starting to see these diagnostic readers as essentaial as a socket set for the tool box. Should have explained my issue is the HID self leveling lights. I have a warning light illuminated (obviously lol or I wouldn't need the tool). Looked under the car and the front bracket was broken, the light used to be intermittent now is on all the time? Wanted to see what the issue is. Don't want to fork out £120+ for a new switch unit when I can make a new bracket for pennies.

Sat nav problem
Don't trust main dealers at best I find them woefully lacking in diagnosis. I have many experiences of my own and friends that means I will only go to them in a last resort. All they do is plug in a computer if the computer doesn't spell it out for them they just scratch their heads and say cant fix it then charge you for the privilege. NOTE I have little experience of Subaru dealers so they may be better, but I doubt it. Did they try a new DVD? in case yours has an error? then a new DVD would be the solution. Or maybe the DVD reader is faulty/dirty heads, if the continental ones arent working either, in which case I would speak to a scrappy. Other than that I dont know much about these systems so wouldnt be able to help.

Fault code reader.
Cant get the FreeSSM to do more than just engine codes although slightly more indepth than my standard OBD2. I found this on the internet. Has anyone used these recommend or not? subaru specific http://www.scantool-direct.co.uk/icarsoft-i903-nissan-subaru-diagnostic-scanner.html Multi car http://www.scantool-direct.co.uk/icarsoft-cr-plus-multi-vehicle-diagnostic-system.html As i rarely (never) keep the same model of care when i change I think the multi car would be of more value but the subaru reads like it does more? Any advice is appreciated :)

What have you done to your Subaru today ?
It was yesterday to be honest but: Oil change. Cabin filter change. Cam belt change with all rollers - water pump (in really good condition). Wish bone bushes. Anti roll bars. Front discs and pads. Spark plugs. Coolant change. Thermostat (previous one was a low temperature one). New battery. New wind screen wipers Busy day :) But concerned about the amount of rust and every thing was hard because of it, taking the cam belt cover off was a right b*****d as most bolt heads just rounded and one crumbled to nothing had to snap cover then glue back together again. A previous owner must have lived on the coast ??

Thanks for the responses. I managed to get a VAG cable a mate had one lying around. The freessm program worked with out an issue and cable was installed on windows 10 with out a CD. However it only seams to bring up engine and transmission codes? Is this its limitation? I already have an OBD2 code reader and was after something which can interogate the airbag, abs, and other systems. Am I doing something wrong or does this program not support those systems? Thanks

Fault code reader.
Thanks i will have a look! If you could post later too that would be awesome, I have no understanding of these systems and get the feeling I could spend lots and have a system that doesnt work.

Fault code reader.
Just found this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/iCarsoft-ICARSOFT-CR-PLUS/dp/B011YFCXUE/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1439029039&sr=8-1-fkmr0&keywords=Icarsoft+CR+Plus+Multi+Vehicle+Diagnostic+System As it covers many cars should mean i dont need to buy one each time I change my car?? Does anyone have experience of this? Not after an all singing dancing one as im not a professional mechanic. But a good DIY one is desired. Thanks

Self levelling head lights
I mean the system where the headlights have a high voltage warning symbol. The correct name for this system I'm not sure as I have heard of HID and projectors?? Are they all the same or different?? This system is often referred to as xenon lights, as I understand. You are correct that this is not accurate as xenon is a gas which you can now buy for normal headlights.

Fault code reader.
I have a universal engine OBD II code reader. I am after one which reads and cancels ABS, air bag etc codes for my outback 2007. I used to have one of these for my previous car http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/Audi-VW-Volkswagen-VAG-Code-Reader-Diagnostic-Scanner-Com-replaces-vs450-/271335094343?nav=SEARCH Is there a similar equivalent for my Subaru? Many thanks

Importing a Subaru to the UK
Hi, You will need to change the lights to UK as you said. rear lights need to comply as well. I believe rear fog light needs to be on right in UK (furthest from kerb), if your car has 2 fog lights then that will be fine. It will need to pass an MOT, which above is required for. You said there was crash damage, If the crash damaged is severe on a UK registered car you will require a VIC test. But as yours is not UK registered, so long as the crash damage has been repaired to a good standard I dont think there should be a problem. Registration of a vehicle was £80 about 10 years ago when I last did it, an internet search will help that. The process is a bit difficult as I remember getting tax, and MOT sorted with all nesesary paperwork, but not as bad as you are used to with Polish bureaucracy (my wife is Polish so I can comment with experience ;) ).
