  1. After 4 good years with the BP5 it was time to change and, when this JDM BRG Wagon came up I couldn't resist . Bit of a culture shock though, from 5MT to CVT plus all the bells and buttons found on a relatively new car. 296 brake so it's no slouch - does anyone else have one of these? It's a 2.0GT DIT.

  3. Now for sale, my Arctic White '03 Legacy Twinscroll 5sp manual Wagon. Imported in 2014, I'm the only UK owner and it has been genuinely loved and pampered. It showed a Jervic verified 60k on import and now has 96k on the clock. Serviced every 6 months and run exclusively on V-Power if this car has needed anything doing it has been done and all the receipts are present to show that. Exterior - immaculate for a car of this era with a very few marks on the driver's sill and on the front bumper. OE Subaru mudguards, unmarked and recently refurbished alloys, Falkons all round with 4mm plus. Bosch wipers. Engine - remapped 2 years ago with the addition of a Hayward & Scott s/s sports cat exhaust and an uprated fuel pump. Dyno'd by Perfect Touch Performance at 303bhp. Interior - black/grey cloth unmarked, fitted OE mats fabric and rubber, Momo gear change knob, OE Subaru short-shift gear linkage, overhead Subaru console, OE Mactintosh audio, PURE DAB radio (I-Pod enabled), Bridgewater cruise control. Jpnz owners manual and cover. Faults - apart from the very few paintwork blemishes there are none, so why sell? My head's been turned by a Mk5 and once tempted there was no going back!   4. Available in the next week or two my late 03 Legacy Wagon, rare 5MT showing 96k. Imported in 2014 via Prodrive with me as the only UK owner. Unmarked exterior and interior, this car has wanted for nothing and has bills and service history to match. Remapped, uprated fuel pump and custom s/s catback Hayward & Scott exhaust fitted by Perfect Touch Performance giving 303bhp on the dyno. Japan carbon front grille, TPS sensors with read out on rear view mirror, PURE digital radio playing through OE Macintosh system, Bridgewater cruise. Wheels refurbed last year. Price in the region of £5750. More pics available on request.

  6. From a car electrics numpty - has anyone fitted a PURE 300DI DAB radio into an Impreza? Ours is a 2010 WRX-s fitted with a standard Subaru/Clarion audio 6-disc changer. My problem is finding adaptors to link between the car's loom and the radio that connect with the loom supplied by PURE. I've wasted money on two Autoleads harnesses from Halfords already, both marked Subaru fitment. These PURE products are usually fitted by the supplier, normally Halfords, but as I've bought this one independently I doubt that they would offer free advice. The supplied loom is on the bottom right of the attached picture. Any thoughts from anyone?
  7. Just had my exhaust replaced to go with a remap. The original (Subaru) exhaust was completely sound and the Cat is now spare. The car has done about 70k and there is no damage to the Cat, just usual age-related marks. If there's any interest I'll post some photos, otherwise I'll stick it on ebay.
  8. Info display- the one showing mpg, time, temp etc. Turned ignition to On today and when engine fired the letters ign flashed on the display for a couple of seconds before reverting to normal. Manual does not mention this or explain. Any ideas?
  9. Further to my efforts - two internet derived attempts. First, sit in car, close door, key in ignition, 10 turns from lock to on, back to lock, open and close door. At this stage the horn should honk then programming begins. Nothing from mine, instead the characters "AL-on" displayed on the dash. That looked promising but pressing either button had no effect. Second method, remove the driver's kickplate the join the two white plastic connectors, then program. Again, all looked good but no response from the key. Any new ideas more than welcome!
  10. No, there's no helpful info on the invoice. I'm the first owner in the UK but as far as I know it's completely standard so I presume it's a factory fitted alarm.
  11. Looking for advice/help with the following; my JDM BP5 came with only one key. Since December I've been trying to obtain a spare. Finally, through Subaru UK, the correct part was ordered from Japan. Last week the blank key was cut and coded by Woodford Motors. But ......though the key will start the car and open the doors manually it won't activate the central locking and with it, the alarm. So, a quick look on the forum showed a fairly easy manual method of entering the key id into the car and solving the problem. But ....no id, not written on or inside the key, just a series of unrelated numbers and letters on the circuit board. SUK unhelpful as soon as the word "import" was used. So, is there a solution, can the 8 digit key id be read from the key or should I accept defeat?
  12. Job finally done - very nearly had to summon the Fire Brigade to extract my hand from the grille and much swearing as I tried to work out how the old sensor uncoupled from the socket. However, she is happy now her display is accurate again and that's a bonus! On a different topic has anyone used Mocom Racing for a remap? My Legacy BP5 would, on paper, benefit in the region of 30bhp and about 50nm of tourque. There must be a downside to this other than just the cost of the job? Does mpg suffer badly, is reliability affected, or must other mods eg exhaust system be changed to make it worthwhile? Mocom seem to be Subaru specialists and are not a huge distance from so if anyone can give me some feedback it would be appreciated.
  13. Thanks for the reply - it's nice to know that someone swore and cursed as much as I have but still got a result in the end! Looking at the new part it looks like its a sprung plastic clip which should probably be pushed out from the rear of the bracket. However, unless you've got fingers like an orangutan it's impossible without removing the entire bumper. So, I'll have another go and sod the damage to the old part. Watch this space......
  14. No, tried and failed! Yes, I managed to squeeze my hand through the lower grille but I couldn't detach the sensor from the bracket. The new one looks like it's just a push fit but despite my best efforts the one in situ wouldn't budge. Any tips?
  15. Pete, thanks for the advice - all want to do is to get to the outside temp sensor.It's u/s and I have a replacement. if I can get the car on a ramp I will try to do the job without removing the whole bumper.

  17. I need to get behind the front grille of my wife's 2010 WRX-s. The 4 black poppers at the top are no problem but it's obviously held at the base somehow. For obvious reasons I really don't want to damage anything so any hints/tips would be greatly appreciated!
  18. 40 mile round trip, spirited progress made followed by 3-point turn and slow reverse back home. No smell, crutch, clutch or otherwise so all seems good. Separate topic - just ordered some interior bling as an early Xmas present to myself. A overhead console that reaches from the front map lights to the centre light. Has anyone else succumbed to what may be a complete waste of cash? If so, how easy was it to fit?
  19. Not that I know of - it only came into the UK in August. All looks standard at the rear and under the bonnet but I'll have a good look underneath when I can get it on a ramp.
  20. Thanks, no I don't rest on the clutch pedal so the problem must be elsewhere. It's odd as there is no other sign of a clutch problem, just the smell after a short spell of slow speed manoeuvring. I'll do as you suggest and put it through the gears with some gusto!
  21. JDM Twin Scroll manual - slow speed manouvering, especially reversing on a incline results in a strong pong reminiscent of over-boiled cabbage! Otherwise al normal, no clutch slippage in any gear. Any ideas?
  22. My Legacy BP5 came with only one key. Being old and forgetful, a spare would be good idea. The key is a two-button remote with a triangular design peculiar to Japanese models. Subaru UK cannot/will not help and as soon as I mention the car's origins nor will any auto locksmith. Has anyone done the same with any success? If so, please let me know some details. On a similar thread - Japanese auction sites have numerous keys, visually the same design, for sale. Can anyone explain of what use is a pre-cut, pre-programmed key to anyone else? There must be a reason, surely the lock design is different for every car? Cheers
  23. I finally got there with my BP5 - after the disaster of the first one this has got to be the good one. All sorts of improvements planned but the car itself is tremendous. A little info needed from fellow JDM owners. How exactly does the "ECO" function operate? I've managed to obtain a Owners manual but there is no mention of the feature for Euro models. Secondly, any recommendation for tyres? My fronts will need replacing in the not too distant future.

Subsequent to the demise of my first BP5 with a crank/bearing failure after 4 days it was either wait for a rebuild, source another engine or accept the offer of a second BP5, same colour, same spec but hopefully with a better engine. Based on the probability that both me and the seller were both extremely unlucky I've taken the exchange. It's slightly older with a few more miles but the bodywork is unmarked and I'm optimistic again. A test drive went well so we're just waiting for the DVLA to give it a number. One thing someone may be able to help with - it does not have a spare key and I've got previous for losing them. They are triangular with two buttons for locking and unlocking and a chrome corner. Can I obtain a blank for one of these and have it programmed? Any ideas, links would be welcomed. I know it will be pricey, we've just paid £150 for a Focus key! Anyway, photos to follow and more info when it's delivered -happy days.
