  1. Hi, The (double DIN) stereo on my 2001 OB has frozen. initially it was stuck on one radio station (BBC Radio 4 which i could have lived with but the Mrs and kids would have killed me). None of the buttons worked not even the power. Turning off the ignition (or removing/replacing the anti-theft panel) has no effect. It simply returns to the radio station at the volume that it was on when the ignitions was cut. I tried playing a CD which it did, but it became impossible to alter volume, change track, stop the playback or eject the CD. Same with a cassette - and the cassette is now stuck in the player. Any ideas how to reset. Will removing the fuse make a difference? Or do I need a new stereo? Any advice gratefully received.
  2. Hi, After the car is well warmed up an occasional clonking or knocking appears when the car is braking, especially going downhill. It appears to be coming from just behind the right hand footwell. If I stop the car for any length of time it goes away but is prone to restart at a later stage. I took off the wheel yesterday to check all was well with the caliper and pads and nothing seemed amiss. It does not seem to be suspension related as it does not appear if i jjudder the brakes quickly. Grateful for any clues as to what it might be.
  3. Success was short lived. The old sensor started playing up but a) not as much as the new sensor and B) only on hot start-ups i.e when the engine was thoroughly up to temperature. I have checked the connector and it looks sound but wonder if there is a further connection upstream between the existing connector and the ECU?
  4. This afternoon I changed back to the previous sensor, ensuring that the connection was extra secure and so far so good.
  5. Will try to swap left to right front then and see what happens.
  6. That sounds like a plan. I had not thought them interchangeable but I suppose I could swap left and right front to get the same effect. Tks for the tip. will try this tomorrow and see what happens.
  7. Cheers. The car has done 167k miles. Any idea of a poss solution. I don't really want to shell out on a 2nd new sensor unless it's necessary. Love the car and want it to run as it should.
  8. Hi. I'd welcome some advice for my 2001 H6 Outback. Not long after I bought it I noticed an intermittent problem with the Check engine light coming on (at same time as VDC Off light being illuminated). A quick check with Torque confirmed the error code as P0031 Bank 1 Sensor 1 which i took to be the offside front Sensor (UK). Deleting the code made it go away for a couple of weeks but on hot starting occasionally back it came. So I replaced the sensor last week and cleared the codes. Everything went well for a couple of days. Today the error code came back. Same error code but the description was slightly different "HO2S Heater Control circuit low (Bank 1 Sensor 1)" Is this likely on a brand new sensor or could it point to a duff connector or something else duff with wiring between the sensor and the ECU?If the latter how would I go about checking.; Any advice gratefully recd.
  9. Hi I've recently bought an Outback and am so impressed with it, with one exception. The ns headlight is well out of alignment. My us edition Haynes manual is of little help but after having removed the headlight I think I have identified the adjuster ( a small translucent plastic nut next to what appears to be the electronic height aduster). Having played around with the adjuster there appears to be no effect on the direction of the beam. Am I missing something or is there a second means of adjusting the beam? I dont want to have to buy a new headlight but suspect that the adjuster mechanism inside the headlight unit is bust, not least because the height adjuster in the cabin affects only the drivers headlight. Any advice welcome.
  10. Hello all, I have just bought myself a 2001 Legacy Outback 3.0 and joined this forum. Am impressed with both so far and am looking forward to a long relationship with such a great car ( and of course, owners club)
