  1. some good news, the guy who's fitting the engine is a bit bogged down with work(sign of a good mechanic?) and will be fitting it tomorrow, but while i've been waiting i've been reading thru forums and decided to do the 'oil pump mod' while the engine is still out,my good luck was to find a brand spanking OEM timing belt, this made me look deeper and i believe this engine had JUST had it's major service at subaru, everything clean and tidy. Result :D

  2. bought from a ropey p***k of a trader as "mechanically sound", a used CARS dealer in BATH.(not to be specific  BEWARE! ) but turned out to be full of STP to hide the noise of the worn big ends (took so called mechanic but the stp oil had him!).

Hopefully got it sorted soon-nearly scrapped it i was that p****d off  . ,

  3. just normal use for me, will get the degreaser on the case as i do like a car to look cared for, but not quite ocd as i'm an angler and that would be a nightmare

i just hope i can get the mpg down aswell, i don't know if the big ends play a part in it but it certainly likes a drink, will a 'remap' help bring the mpg down after the swap?

  4. i've made the decision and bought a used but guaranteed engine for £270 +£50 delivery from the auction site  , a friend of a friend will be putting it in for me on monday for £150, so hopefully back on track soon.

cheapest way i could find out rather than trashing an otherwise lovely motor, definately cheaper than getting another car!

any thoughts on what will need renewing with the engine swap? if it ain't broke don't fix it?,
