odessey
Could anyone help with some buying tips and what to look out for when buying an outback? I'm looking at getting one for my misses and don't want to be buying a heap. I'm looking at a 2002 model, 2.5,manual. All advice much appreciated. Thanks
Gambit
Well I don't know a lot about them mate, but have heard great reviews of people still going strong with 3 to 400,000 miles on the clock as long as its looked after. Knock sensors seem to be a problem with them and again would always say. As you know well. Big ends, Clutch see how worn it is, and check the gears work as they should. anything else I'm sure you know to look out for. And don't forget pictures :D

david1972
Has anyone any advice for things to look for on a 55 plate 3.0r auto to add to the above please? I've already established it has a full main dealer history with low mileage. Are there any known obvious faults with these luxury cruisers? Thanks guys [emoji106] I'm viewing tomorrow at 1100 Sent from my iphone using Tapatalk
majik_thighs
I already posted in your other thread but........service history is a must!.......timing belt changed? (If you go for a 2.5) give it a good test drive, listen for any noise from the drive train, wheel bearings etc...... check the oil/water...the usual, how clean is the engine compartment, have a right good nosey underneath with a torch if poss. They are pretty much indestructible as long as they`ve not been thrashed around off-road too much. Start her up and give it a minute or 2.....you should now not be able to hear or even feel that the engine is running....the 1st couple of days with my 3 ltr o5 when I stopped at the lights I thought the engine had stalled. And it should also feel as comfy as your couch! Hope you get a nice clean one matey. ;)
david1972
Cheers bud - I caught your other post just now too :) I'll report back tomorrow evening - going to be roughly a 6 hour round trip, but based on what I know about the car already, probably well worth it (touch wood!) Ive had 4 Outbacks from Bolton, Blackpool, Rotherham....and my last, the one I have now Came from Haslingden which is about 5 miles away....the last 3 I found on eBay......they are worth the trip! You get a lot of car for you money you really do.
Th4neuk
Can't help with the buying guide but you get so much for your cash and I bet the petrels are super smooth. My diesel is nice just a bit noisy at tickover (compared to a v6 diesel) Good luck with it. Would check all the electrics as these newer ones don't seem to come up as breakers very often Cheers Alan

Th4neuk
I was actually looking for a 520d when I saw this. It ticked every box I wanted and I saved £5k on a similar spec 5 series. Mpg is about 47 on the on board thing. 45 if I give it a bit more thrust lol. The ride is soooooooo comfy though. It has also meant I have some cash in the bank to play so am adding a few extras lol. My daily commute ruled out the petrol ones :-( Cheers Alan
majik_thighs
They are uncannily comfortable for a car designed to go off-road, no idea how they do it but they do. Just wait for the snow if it comes and give it a go.........they can climb walls
